Jakarta, December 16, 2021 – PT Pertamina (Persero) continues to carry out strategic initiatives for energy transition, including the electric vehicle ecosystem. Pertamina Patra Niaga, as Pertamina's Sub Holding Commercial & Trading (C&T), collaborates with GOJEK with Electrum, a joint venture company of Gojek and TBS, in developing downstream infrastructure for electric motors, collaborating with two-wheeled KBLBB pioneers in Indonesia, GESITS, as well as the Taiwanese two-wheeled KBLBB brand Gogoro. Namely, the commercial pilot Battery Swapping Station (BSS) or General Electric Vehicle Battery Exchange Station (SPBKLU).
President Director of Pertamina Patra Niaga SH C&T, Alfian Nasution, said Pertamina Patra Niaga and several strategic partners had previously developed a charging station for electric cars. This time the commitment to accelerate the electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem was continued by developing a commercial pilot BSS with Electrum with GESITS and Gogoro.
"Pertamina Patra Niaga continues to commit and contribute to the acceleration of energy transition, especially the EV ecosystem. Pertamina Patra Niaga and Electrum have agreed to collaborate, and for the commercial pilot, GOJEK driver-partners will begin using GESITS and Gogoro electric motors with BSS services provided by Pertamina," said Alfian.
According to Alfian, BSS is Pertamina Patra Niaga's anticipation for the energy transition to the arrival of electric motors, currently available and used by the general public.
Alfian continued, at this initial stage Pertamina Patra Niaga plans to conduct a commercial pilot of the BSS in Jakarta spread over 7 (seven) Green Energy Station (GES) gas stations. The BSS commercial pilots will be supported by at least 500 electric motor vehicles from GOJEK partners with the GESITS and Gogoro brands.
"Currently, the commercial pilot preparation process has been completed. Pertamina Patra Niaga will soon launch the General Electric Vehicle Battery Exchange Station business at petrol stations. With Electrum and GESITS, Pertamina Patra Niaga is committed to supporting the government's plans to accelerate the energy transition, particularly Presidential Regulation No. 55 of 2019 about the Acceleration of the KBLBB Program. In addition, we also support Indonesia's commitment in COP26 regarding electrification in the transportation sector, as well as Environmental, Social, & Governance (ESG) commitments regarding the provision of cleaner energy," said Alfian.
President Director of Electrum, Pandu Sjahrir, said the synergy of Electrum with Pertamina Patra Niaga as well as GESITS and Gogoro would accelerate the realization of an integrated electric vehicle ecosystem in Indonesia.
"We are very pleased to collaborate with Pertamina Patra Niaga, which shares our vision of creating an EV ecosystem in Indonesia. It followsGojek's 2030 Sustainability Commitment and TBS's Net Zero Emission program," Pandu said.
Gojek CEO Kevin Aluwi hopes that the collaboration of these various parties can create a better environment and simplify the operations of our partners.
"This collaboration is the first step for GOJEK to become a carbon-neutral platform and transition to 100% electric vehicles by 2030. This collaboration concept requires synergy with various parties to run smoothly, from electric motorcycle manufacturers to electric battery manufacturers and SPBKLU providers. GOJEK will also support partners to ease the process of getting electric motorcycles," said Kevin.
As a concrete step in the collaboration of Pertamina, Electrum, GESITS, and Gogoro this December, has carried out commercial trials of 500 units of electric motorcycles in South Jakarta. Furthermore, the trial will be increased with an initial target of utilizing up to 5,000 electric motors.
In the future, Pertamina Group, through collaboration between Pertamina Patra Niaga and Pertamina Power Indonesia (PPI), will also continue to develop an integrated EV Ecosystem. PPI will participate in the integrated battery industry from upstream to downstream with a target production capacity of 140 GWh by 2029 managed by PT Industri Battery Indonesia. EV batteries development is one of Pertamina's priority future businesses.**
