Jakarta, November 25, 2021 – PT Pertamina (Persero) continues to support government steps to achieve net-zero emissions for global sustainability. Efforts to reduce carbon emissions are not only carried out in the business and operational aspects of the Company, but also in other aspects such as through the Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) program in the form of waste management which has the potential to reduce emissions of 15,863 kg CO2 equivalent per year.
These waste management programs will be the target of support for 3000 participants or Runnergizers through the Pertamina Eco Run 2021 with Run For The Earth theme.
"Each participant has the potential to contribute in reducing at least 5 kg of CO2 equivalent to carbon emissions from our environment or the equivalent of driving 50 km of a car because by becoming Runnergizers, means everyone supports Pertamina's TJSL programs in various cities in the waste management field. There are plastic waste, wood waste, organic waste, to used cooking oil that is processed, recycled, or reused into energy for daily needs or into high-value goods," said Fajriyah Usman, VP of Corporate Communication of Pertamina.
Support will be given to several Pertamina TJSL programs related to waste management, including the Bu Manik program (Cultivation of Maggot and Organic Fertilizer) in the Bandung Group Fuel Terminal area, the Wiralodra program (Community Areas for Waste Recycling Management) in the Balongan Refinery area, the BETTER program for managing waste becomes FAME in the Sepinggan Aircraft Filling Depot area, an integrated waste management program in the Pertamina EP Prabumulih area, a fish waste management program, used cooking oil and waste in the Pertagas area of East Java, a community-based waste bank program in the PGE Kamojang area, and others.
Fajriyah explained that the form of support or assistance provided will be in the form of additional funds from Pertamina which will be distributed to waste management programs so that they continue developing programs to further reduce their carbon footprint.
"Donations will be given to the program through the TJSL mechanism that is already in progress, it is hoped that the additional donations will increase the type of program and continue to increase the potential for emission reductions," she said.
In addition to the waste management program, Pertamina has also implemented programs that approach the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) aspects, one of which is through the Desa Energi Berdikari program, which is a village that utilizes local energy potential, especially renewable energy. Currently, there are more than 10 Independent Energy Villages, with a total energy production of 35,400 Kilowatt-hour (KWH) and 95,400 Liters of alternative fuels (BBA), and an increase in the community's income of more than Rp. 870 million/year.
“Pertamina also supports the government's climate village program in reducing carbon emissions. In implementing the climate village program, Pertamina facilitates multi-stakeholder and multi-level collaboration in implementing concrete climate action at the local level, especially in every village closest to our operational area," concluded Fajriyah.
The implementation of Pertamina's TJSL program is specifically to support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) point 13 in handling climate change.**
