Pertamina EP Papua Field Establishes Reading Corner To Increase West Papua Student Reading Interest

Sorong, December 9, 2021 – Pertamina EP Papua Field, part of Zone 14 Regional East Indonesia Subholding Upstream Pertamina, established a Reading Corner at Inpres 09 Elementary School, Sorong Regency, Central Salawati District, West Papua, Friday (12/11/2021).

Increasing interest in reading, especially for students in Papua, is a challenge for Pertamina EP Papua Field. The lack of adequate educational facilities and the lack of books available make the reading interest of Papuan students very low. It is a challenge for Pertamina EP Papua Field to change habits and foster reading interest in Papuan students for a better future for Indonesia.

The Principal and the students accepted the SD Inpres 09's Reading Corner program enthusiastically. It can be seen from the very high enthusiasm. When the books are arranged neatly and uniquely, the students immediately run and fight for books. "I'm delighted that we have lots of books," said Diandra Sarim, one of the students of SD Inpres 09.

SD Inpres 09 Principal Apdianto Situmorang expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Pertamina EP Papua Field for providing the school with all of these facilities and programs. "With a unique and colorful concept and more than 350 book variants, students can choose the book they want to read. The students are very enthusiastic about the assistance given. Hopefully, this will make the students at our school more interested to read," he said.**
