Jakarta, May 12, 2021 - PT Pertamina (Persero) strengthen its steps to support the Government in overcoming climate change and global warming. One of them is the development of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) and Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) to reduce carbon emissions and the Enhance Oil and Gas Recovery efforts in Pertamina's wells to increase the country's oil and gas production.
To make this happen, Pertamina is exploring cooperation with ExxonMobil through the development of oil and gas research and technology in the upstream, downstream, renewable energy and other business potential sectors.
"The cooperation plan with ExxonMobil is in line with President Joko Widodo's direction to carry out a business transformation towards a green economy that focuses on new and renewable energy," said President Director of PT Pertamina (Persero), Nicke Widyawati, on Tuesday (11/5).
In this cooperation plan, Pertamina, together with ExxonMobil, will conduct studies in developing and applying low-carbon technology to achieve net-zero emissions in promoting global climate goals.
The CO2 injection process into the subsurface layer is used to apply CCS technology to the depleted reservoir in Pertamina's working area and assess the potential of the hubs and cluster scheme.
In addition, this technology can be applied to the production of blue hydrogen with carbon capture combined with CCS technology.
Another application that will be studied is CCUS. It is the use of CO2 converted into value-added products whose application is carried out in the upstream and downstream oil and gas industries.
In addition to exploring cooperation with ExxonMobil, Pertamina and the Japanese Government are currently conducting a CO2 injection study cooperation in the Gundih exploration field with ITB University partners and in the Sukowati exploration field Lemigas partners.
"The implementation of carbon capture technology is part of Pertamina's 8 green energy transition agenda, which will ensure business sustainability in the future," said Nicke.**
