Pertamina Facilitate Waste Bank for Renewable Energy Production  

Jakarta, November 19, 2020 - Pertamina, through its CSR Program, facilitate its Waste Bank partners to process waste into renewable energy.

Pertamina collaborates with PT Pegadaian, which also has Waste Bank partners to encourage environmentally friendly renewable energy production.

Acting Vice President of Corporate Communication of Pertamina, Heppy Wulansari, said the synergy between the two SOE prioritized inclusive and collaborative aspects to build awareness within the community about waste management.

“Through this program, it is hoped that Pertamina and Pegadaian can contribute to the government’s goal of achieving point 7 of the SDGs, which is clean and affordable energy. As well as point 8, which is the increase of economic development that is inclusive and sustainable,” said Heppy

Aside from that, added Heppy, this program also supports point 12 of the SDGs, responsible consumption and productions, and point 17 of the SDGs, global partners revitalization.

“This collaboration is hoped to maximalize theWast Bank management potential that is managed by Pertamina or Pegadaian,” added Heppy.

As the first step, on the fourth week of October 2020, knowledge sharing between KSM Ramah Lingkungan Waste Bank, fostered by EP Tarakan, and the Panggungharjo Yogyakarta Waste Bank, which is fostered by Pegadaian.

KSM Ramah Lingkungan explained the processing of used oil to become biodiesel by using bioethanol from fruit and rice waste. The by-product of processing used cooking oil into biodiesel is glycerol, which can then be processed into soap.

Meanwhile, the Panggungharjo Yogyakarta Waste Bank shared their processing waste experiences into other creative items such as bags, flower vases, tissue boxes, decorative lights, and others.

Anwar, the manager of KSM Ramah Lingkungan, thanked Pertamina and Pegadaian, who initiated this activity to increase their knowledge and understanding as waste bank managers to find other alternatives in waste management.

A similar sentiment was expressed by Eko, the manager of the Panggungharjo waste bank. According to him, this program helps the community be more motivated to use waste as an alternative source of new and renewable energy.**
