Pertamina Fosters More Than 8700 MSEs in the Industrial Sector as SDG's Implementation

Jakarta, June 5, 2021 – Almost all micro and small enterprises (MSEs) sectors have been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, including the industrial sector. PT Pertamina (Persero), through the MSE Funding Program, took part in helping MSEs to rise and be adaptive. Namely, with the distribution of business capital and the MSE development program.

Acting Senior Vice President Corporate Communications & Investor Relations of Pertamina, Fajriyah Usman, said MSEs in the industrial sector play an important role, especially in terms of employment. "This sector has great potential because it has a great opportunity to become a medium and even large industry," she said.

Pertamina supports several different types of MSEs in the industrial sector. There are food and beverage industries, batik, apparel, footwear, children's toys, and many others. "Micro and small industries can become factories for food, beverages, clothing, footwear, and large companies that started from MSEs," said Fajriyah.

From 1993 to 2020, continued Fajriyah, Pertamina has fostered more than 8,700 partners engaged in this sector. Each of these MSEs has a relatively large number of workers compared to other sectors. In total, there are more benefit received from Pertamina's assistance.

One of the fostered partners engaged in this sector is Rehana. CV Sinar Brahma Rasid business owner produces various safety gloves made of leather. Now she empowers about 40 people to help her business. "We had been affected by the pandemic, but thanks to capital assistance from Pertamina, it could be used to improve production performance," she said.

In addition, from the food industry sector, there is I Ketut Widana. UD Utami owner is now a successful producer of processed chocolate in Bali. As his business continues to grow, he empowers around 30 people to help him. In addition to being profit-oriented, this effort is a form of sociopreneur-based enterprise that can help many small communities.

According to Fajriyah, through the MSE Funding Program, Pertamina wants to provide energy that can drive the economy--energy that becomes fuels and energy that produces sustainable growth.

Pertamina also supports SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) point 8 achievements through implementing ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance)-based programs in all of its operational areas. It is part of the environmental and social responsibility to realize economic benefits for the community.**
