Jakarta, September 27, 2021 – Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) - Integrated Marine & Logistics Subholding is part of the International Forum on Spice Route (IFSR) organized by the Negeri Rempah Foundation in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia on 21-23 September 2021. PIS was also contributing as speakers at the event with the theme “Rebuilding the Spice Route Interconnectivity to World Heritage”, represented by Muhammad Irfan Zainul Fikri as PIS Project Management Coordinator and Indra Lianggoro Widhy Nugroho as PIS Project Control with the topic related to the role of PIS in supporting Indonesia to become the world’s maritime axis.
Irfan said, “Currently, Indonesian sea routes are essential in the world. With its strategic geographical position, Indonesia’s waters are still one of the world’s busiest waterways”. Indonesia’s sea routes currently have similarities with the spice trade historic routes in the past. PIS now uses them to distribute energy commodities, namely oil and natural gas, throughout the country. PIS is supported by six business lines that focus on shipping, marine services, port services, port ownership, storage, and other logistics services to support the implementation of oil and gas distribution. As of today, PIS also has 539 vessels of various types to support the company.
PIS is also taking part in advancing the domestic maritime industry by empowering local shipyards in shipbuilding. Indra added, “So far, we have had 31 ships built in domestic shipyards, one of which is PT PAL, PT DPS, and PT Dok Perkapalan Kodja Bahari,” he added. It shows the support given by PIS to empower locals as an effort to advance the domestic maritime industry.
The Indonesian maritime capability represented by PIS is now able to compete internationally. “PIS vessels have successfully docked at international ports, one of which is the LPG Export Terminal owned by Phillips 66 in Freeport, Texas, USA, with Pertamina Gas 2. All of the crews are Indonesian. It shows that the PIS fleet can penetrate the international market, not only in the domestic market with cargo such as Gasoline & Diesel, Avtur & MFO, Crude Oil, and LPG,” said Indra.
In line with its business expansion, PIS also supports implementing Environment, Sustainability, and Governance (ESG) by presenting several environmentally-friendly ships (Green Shipping) such as Stern Tube Air Seal Type to avoid ship fuel leaks. There is also an Oily Water Separator (OWS) that separates water from oil to prevent pollution. It is PIS’ steps to accomplish a green shipping company, green operation, green cargo, green port, and green storage to be able to compete globally and fulfil the company’s vision to become an Asia Leading Shipping Company and taking part in making Indonesia as the world’s maritime axis. **
