Singapore, October 16, 2024 – Pertamina has once again held its Pertamina Goes To Campus (PGTC) 2024 series. While the previous events were held at universities in Indonesia, Pertamina is hosting PGTC in Singapore for the first time. Under the theme "Sustainability Pioneers," this event aims to engage Indonesian students in Singapore to help build a sustainable energy future.
This first inaugural overseas PGTC is held in collaboration with the Indonesian Student Association in Singapore (PPIS) and the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore. It will run for two days, from October 16 to 17, 2024.
During the opening ceremony, the President Director of Pertamina, Nicke Widyawati, stated that the Indonesian government aims to elevate Indonesia from a middle-income to a high-income country by 2045, which will require economic growth.
"To raise Indonesia's status to a high-income country, the economy must grow by 7–8% annually. It can be achieved if the domestic manufacturing industry contributes 30%. To reach this target, energy resilience is needed from fossil fuels and green energy. Pertamina is continuously implementing biofuel programs to provide green alternative energy using domestic natural resources," Nicke explained.
Nicke further elaborated that realizing this vision requires collaboration from various stakeholders, including academics. Through the PGTC event in Singapore, it is hoped that Indonesian students studying abroad can actively contribute to nation-building.
"Sustainability and the energy transition in Indonesia are not only about reducing carbon emissions but also enhancing Indonesia's global standing. We cannot achieve this without the contribution of students, who will become the next generation of leaders. This is a call to Indonesian students abroad: after graduation, return home to help make Indonesia a greener and more sustainable nation," urged Nicke.
The Indonesian Ambassador to Singapore, Suryo Pratomo, expressed his appreciation for the PGTC event, which involves students addressing global issues like sustainability.
"This event marks an important milestone on our journey toward a sustainable future. Today, we gather not only to discuss energy but also to address the global issue of energy transition. The primary goal of this event is to foster collaboration between students and industry players, as the future of sustainable energy lies not only in technological innovation but also in the participation of young people," said Suryo.
The first day of the PGTC in Singapore featured a talk show titled Pertamina Energizing Talks, with speakers from Pertamina, including SVP Business Development Wisnu Medan Santoso and SVP Human Capital Management Saptiadi Nugroho, as well as other international speakers. On the second day, Indonesian students in Singapore could visit the Pertamina International Shipping Asia Pacific office in Singapore.
The PGTC series is expected to provide positive benefits for Indonesian students in Singapore by offering up-to-date information on energy issues, providing opportunities to contribute, and offering insights into the qualifications required to enter the energy sector as the future workforce of Indonesia.
Pertamina, as a leading company in the energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement. All these efforts align with Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) implementation across all Pertamina's business lines and operations.**
