Jakarta, May 4, 2024 – The energy industry in Indonesia is facing an energy trilemma, namely issues of energy resilience, affordability, and environmental sustainability. PT Pertamina (Persero) plays a significant role in addressing these challenges while countering global threats due to geopolitical factors and ongoing market fluctuations.
"The energy trilemma is currently a significant challenge for Pertamina, especially as a state-owned energy company with a primary role in maintaining national energy resilience. The energy trilemma is addressed by optimizing Pertamina Group's resources and strengthening collaborations with partners from the private sector, government, and the academic world," explained Vice President of Corporate Communication of Pertamina, Fadjar Djoko Santoso.
Among these, Fadjar continued, are upstream production optimization and increasing Pertamina's refinery production to reduce imports. Other strategies include strengthening energy transition utilization, such as utilizing city gas networks, increasing geothermal energy capacity, and using biofuels.
He added that Pertamina is optimizing all its human resources to implement various strategies. However, support from all parties is necessary so that Indonesia can address this energy industry challenge more swiftly.
"One of Pertamina's efforts to increase understanding and support from the public is through education at the university level, in which students are the younger generation who will continue energy management," said Fadjar.
Pertamina's commitment to education is evident through various initiatives, including the upcoming Pertamina Goes to Campus 2024 (PGTC) event in 15 universities across Indonesia. PGTC serves as a platform for discussions and introduction of Pertamina's role in the energy sector and national development to the academic community.
The PGTC series of activities will commence on Monday, May 6, 2024, at the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) as the PGTC Kick-Off. At ITB, Pertamina will organize two talk shows with the "Shaping Tomorrow: Empowering Sustainable Careers. Energy Solutions, And Educational Practices For Environmental Resilience" theme. The first session will feature speakers such as the President Director of PT Pertamina (Persero), Nicke Widyawati, Rector of ITB, Prof. Ir. N.R. Reini Djuhraeni Wirahadikusumah, and Adi Prinantyo - Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Harian Kompas. Meanwhile, the second talk show, "Energizing Future Leaders: Unlocking Human Potential," will feature the Director of HR of Pertamina, Erry Sugiharto, Co-Founder of Chickin, Tubagus Syailendra, and Environmental Ambassador and entrepreneur Tasya Kamila.
"Through the PGTC 2024 event, Pertamina provides updates regarding the energy industry, as well as builds collaboration among industry players, academics, and community figures, thereby contributing to driving innovation, stimulating growth, and addressing challenges for energy independence and development," clarified Fadjar.
Pertamina, as a leading company in the energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement. All these efforts align with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) implementation across all Pertamina's business lines and operations.**
