Pertamina Improves Performance to Maintain National Energy Resilience, Independence, and Sovereignty in 2020

Jakarta, June 15, 2021 - PT Pertamina (Persero) is committed to continuously improving the company's operational performance from upstream to downstream to serve energy needs and maintain national energy resilience, independence, and sovereignty in the future.

In the upstream sector, until the end of 2020, Pertamina has produced a total of 862.7 MBOEPD of oil and gas, each with crude oil production of 408.4 MBOPD and natural gas production of 2,634.2 MMSCFD.

Pertamina is also actively seeking new sources of oil and gas reserves through drilling exploration wells.  Therefore, in the future national energy security will be stronger. In 2020, Pertamina's upstream subsidiary carried out exploration drilling of 9 wells. It has also succeeded in a 2D Regional Sea Seismic Survey in an open area of 32,215 km and a 3D Seismic Survey covering 755 km2. Therefore, Pertamina can add proven oil and gas reserves (P1) by 212.5 MMBOE and contingent resource findings (2C) realization by 287 MMBOE.

"This is Pertamina's commitment to continue exploration activities when other oil and gas companies have postponed exploration activities due to the decline in world oil prices," said Fajriyah Usman, Acting Senior VP Corporate Communications & Investor Relations of Pertamina, after the GMS, held on June 14, 2021.

Efforts to strengthen energy security and sovereignty are also carried out by developing domestic energy sources. Through the Biodiesel plus 30 percent (B30) program, by 2020, Pertamina has absorbed 7.14 million Kiloliters (KL) of FAME. To anticipate the energy transition, Pertamina has succeeded in producing electricity of 4,637 GWh. It consists of Pertamina's geothermal production of 4,618 GWh and 19 GWh originating from a solar power plant in the Badak NGL area, a biogas power plant (PLTBg) in Sei Mangkei, Kwala Sawit, and Pagar Merbau.

As a state-owned enterprise, Pertamina also supports the government's efforts to strengthen the trade balance by reducing oil and gas imports. Pertamina imported 76.7 million barrels of crude oil in 2020, a 12% decrease from the previous year. The volume of product imports also decreased by 19% to 98.2 million barrels in 2020. Pertamina also remained consistently independent or did not import diesel and avtur since mid-2019.

Pertamina's operational achievements in 2020 can also be seen in efforts to maintain national energy security by playing a role in supporting the supply and development of energy infrastructure amidst the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic.

To ensure access to energy, added Fajriyah, Pertamina builds and develops various networks and infrastructure in the downstream sector, including for the distribution of fuel, LPG, gas, and LNG. This infrastructure development is also significant to improve operational and service performance in the downstream sector.

In 2020, Pertamina recorded the company's consolidated sales consisting of fuel, Avtur, LPG, and Petrochemicals of 82.81 million KL. For PSO fuel (Kerosene, Solar & Biosolar) and Premium, the realization of sales in 2020 was 22.87 million KL, while for Non-PSO fuel and Non-fuel products, in 2020 sales were recorded at 47.21 million KL.

As for the distribution of PSO LPG volume, in 2020, it will be 7.16 million MT. The realization of gas trade in 2020 is 303,078.3 BBTU, while gas transportation realization in 2020 is 459,512.0 MMSCF.

"To improve services and achieve energy independence in the future, Pertamina continues to develop downstream infrastructure, and 4 RDMP and 1 GRR integrated with petrochemical refineries as the company's future business," said Fajriyah.**
