Cilacap, March 22, 2024 - PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional (KPI) Unit IV in Cilacap officially inaugurated a 0.99 Megawatt peak (MWp) Solar Power Plant (PLTS) on Thursday (21/3). This PLTS is a synergy within the Pertamina Group, between KPI and Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE).
The inauguration was conducted by the Director of Operations of KPI, Didik Bahagia, and the Director of Strategic Planning and Business Development of Pertamina NRE, Fadli Rahman, along with the GM of Refinery Unit IV Cilacap, Edy Januari Utama. The PLTS, with a total installed capacity of 0.99 MWp, is built in two separate areas, namely 495 KWp at Gunung Simping and 504 KWp at Tegalkamulyan. This PLTS is utilized to meet the electricity needs of two Pertamina residential complexes in Cilacap Refinery.
"We are proud to be part of the decarbonization efforts in the Kilang Pertamina Internasional area. The PLTS utilization in Cilacap Refinery is one of the forms of collaboration between Pertamina NRE and Kilang Pertamina Internasional. Thanks to all parties who have supported this energy transition program. We believe that solid synergy will strengthen efforts to achieve Pertamina's net zero emission aspiration," said Fadli Rahman, Director of Strategic Planning and Business Development of Pertamina NRE, during the PLTS inauguration.
Fadli continued that Pertamina's decarbonization initiative is a serious effort and part of Pertamina's commitment to implementing ESG aspects. This seriousness is proven by Pertamina's improving ESG score every year.
On the same occasion, the Director of Operations of KPI, Didik Bahagia, expressed KPI's high commitment to support decarbonization in operational units. "By integrating decarbonization into operational units, KPI is ready to make a real and positive impact on the environment while contributing to the global sustainability goals achievement," said Didik Bahagia.
In addition to improving electricity supply reliability, this PLTS proves that Cilacap Refinery is fully committed to decarbonization, which is part of the ESG implementation for KPI and Pertamina. This PLTS is estimated to distribute energy equivalent to 1421 MWh per year and reduce carbon emissions by nearly 1083 tons of CO2 per year.
Up to now, overall, PLTS installed in KPI's operational area has reached a capacity of 9.87 MWp, namely Dumai Refinery 3.77 MW, Plaju Refinery 2.25 MW, Balongan Refinery 1.51 MW, and Cilacap Refinery 2.34 MW. The accumulated energy distributed reaches 10 million kWh and a reduction in emissions of over six million tons of CO2, equivalent to planting seven thousand mature trees.
Vice President of Corporate Communication of Pertamina, Fadjar Djoko Santoso, added that Pertamina Group's synergy in the energy transition field reflects Pertamina's commitment to supporting net zero emissions (NZE) by 2060. "All Pertamina business lines play a role in developing energy transition, and through the synergy of this program, it is expected to have a more direct impact on the achievement of sustainable development goals," he explained.
Pertamina has an aspiration aligned with the government, which is to achieve net zero emissions by 2060 at the latest. This aspiration is achieved through two initiatives: decarbonization and low-carbon business, as well as carbon offset.
Pertamina, as a leading company in the energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement. All these efforts align with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) implementation across all Pertamina's business lines and operations.**
