Cilacap, June 11, 2021 – Pertamina managed to control the fire that occurred in a tank containing benzene. Currently, efforts are still being made to extinguish the remaining fire in the bund wall area. A cooling attempt are also being carried out to prevent the fire from reoccurring.
The tank that caught fire occured in Cilacap Refinery, Central Java, occurred at 19.45 (11/06) and the cause of the fire is still yet to be determined.
Efforts to extinguish the fire are carried out by spraying foam towards the fire hotspot. A total of 50 firefighters were deployed to handle the fire.
The Cilacap Refinery is one of six Pertamina’s refineries, and has a processing capacity of 270 thousand barrels per day. This refinery has about 200 tanks to accommodate crude oil to be processed, gas, and fuel from crude oil processing.
Despite the fire accident, Pertamina ensures that the supply of fuel and LPG for the public remains safe.**
