Pertamina NRE – IGNIS Energy Holdings – Krakatau Steel Joint Study on Clean Hydrogen Development in Indonesia

Bali, October 18, 2022 – PT Pertamina Power Indonesia (Pertamina NRE), PT Krakatau Steel (Persero) Tbk, and IGNIS Energy Holding signed a joint study agreement (JSA) on the Development of Blue & Green Hydrogen and New & Renewable Energy in the Krakatau Steel Industrial Area during the G20 State-Owned Enterprises International Conference on Tuesday (18/10) in Nusa Dua, Bali.

The signing was carried out by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Pertamina NRE, Dannif Danusaputro, Director of Business Development, Purwono Widodo, representing the President Director of PT Krakatau Steel (Persero) Tbk, and Antonio Sieira Mucientes as Chief Executive Officer of IGNIS Energy Holdings. It was witnessed by the Deputy Minister of SOEs I Pahala N. Mansury, and Pertamina Director of Strategy, Portfolio, and Business Development A. Salyadi Dariah Saputra.

"We are very enthusiastic about collaborating with Krakatau Steel to study the development of a green industrial port through the provision of renewable energy. Several renewable energy potentials can be utilized, including wind power, solar power, and clean hydrogen. We also welcome the collaboration with IGNIS in its development. We hope this joint study will continue with more concrete stages," explained Dannif.

Silmy Karim explained that the signing of the PSB is the initial stage of exploring the potential for blue & green hydrogen production for industrial areas, providing clean energy, and other potential collaborations that could involve Krakatau Steel and the Group.

"The feasibility study will be carried out after the formation of the PSB joint team. We will immediately draw up a roadmap for renewable energy development in the Krakatau Steel Industrial Estate. With parties who are experts in their fields, I believe the development of EBT in the Krakatau Steel Industrial Estate will be an added value for Krakatau Steel and the Group that promotes the development of Green Steel in the future," added Silmy.

The three entities will jointly prepare a pre-feasibility study and/or feasibility study to build a blue/green hydrogen plant in the Krakatau Steel industrial area integrated with an offshore wind power plant (PLTB) and PLTS. The development of the blue/green hydrogen plant is estimated to produce up to 500 MWp – 1.5 GWp of electricity with a CO2 storage potential of 61 Million Metric Tons.
