Pertamina NRE Supply 570 MW Clean Energy for the Tuban GRR Project

Jakarta, April 21, 2022 - Pertamina NRE and Pertamina Rosneft Processing and Petrochemical (PRPP) signed Head of Agreement (HoA) regarding the electricity, steam, and water supply at the Tuban Grass Root Refinery (GRR) project on Monday (18/4).

Reizaldi Gustino, President Director of PRPP and Dannif Danusaputro, CEO of Pertamina NRE, signed the Head of Agreement during a ceremonial event presented by Fadli Rahman, Director of Strategic Planning and Business Development. For Pertamina NRE, this is part of its commitment to lead Pertamina's energy transition. The ceremony was attended by Nicke Widyawati, President Director of Pertamina and Director of Logistics & Infrastructure of Pertamina.

In this strategic partnership, Pertamina will meet Tuban GRR's electricity, steam, and air energy needs through cogeneration development and desalination installations. The LNG-based power plant is designed with a capacity of 570 MW and steam with a capacity of 84 to 1,156 tons per hour, depending on pressure. LNG will be supplied from Pertamina Gas Negara (PGN). This project is targeted to operate in 2026. Pertamina NRE will cooperate with strategic partners in this project.

Power plants that use LNG have the advantage of lower carbon emissions. LNG utilization is appropriate in responding to the energy transition needs where renewable energy development cannot fulfill national energy needs. It aligned with Pertamina's spirit to make a stable and sustainable energy transition.

"As the energy transition mandate holder, Pertamina NRE is focused on transitioning Pertamina's business and ensuring the energy transition goes well. As the parent company, Pertamina will always guard and support. Because this is a future business and our responsibility," Nicke said in her speech.

Gas to power is one of Pertamina NRE's clean energy portfolios. Java-1 PLTGU in Cilamaya, West Java, is Pertamina NRE's experience in gas-to-power projects, which is the largest integrated PLTGU in Southeast Asia with a capacity of 1,760 MW. The project is targeted to operate this year. Pertamina EBT is committed and focused on leading the energy transition through clean energy provision within Pertamina. This year Pertamina EBT is targeted to be installed above 100 MW.

“The Tuban GRR project is one of the national strategic projects to achieve energy independence. Pertamina NRE is proud to provide electricity, steam, and energy supplies for this project. With competence and experience in the development of gas to power, we will provide the best results," Dannif said.

The Tuban GRR project is one of Pertamina's mega-projects which integrates an oil refinery with a petrochemical complex. GRR Tuban is designed with the capacity to process 300 thousand barrels per day of crude oil and will produce 230 thousand barrels of fuel per day in total and 4.1 million tons of petrochemical and aromatic products per year. This project is targeted to operate in 2027.**
