Jakarta, November 26, 2021 – Pertamina subholding Power & NRE (Pertamina NRE) targets clean energy with a total installed capacity of 3.2 GW by 2022, which is contributed from gas to power, geothermal, and new and renewable energy (NRE).
By carrying out the mandate as a subholding, Pertamina NRE has a business that includes gas to power, geothermal managed by its subsidiary, Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGE), and NRE. In 2022, Pertamina NRE targets the total installed capacity to reach 3.2 GW, or an increase of 61 percent from the 2021 target. The target consists of 1.8 GW of gas to power, 908 MW of geothermal, and 480 MW of NRE.
"Pertamina NRE pursues growth to achieve the 10 GW aspiration by 2026. To achieve this growth, business development and investment are carried out through optimizing opportunities both internally and externally within Pertamina," explained Corporate Secretary of Pertamina NRE, Dicky Septriadi in his presentation at the editor gathering on Thursday (25/11).
Dicky added that Pertamina's internal is the main target in order to fulfill Pertamina's commitment to reduce carbon emissions of 30 percent by 2030. As a company that is fully committed to implementing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) aspects, Pertamina has the responsibility for making an energy transition with a main focus being 'own yard'.
The potential capacity to switch to the usage of internal solar power plants (PLTS) in Pertamina reaches 500 MW for at least the next two years. One of Pertamina's internal PLTS projects is in the Rokan work area with the potential of 200 MWp, of which 40 MWp is targeted to operate in 2022. Some of other Pertamina's internal PLTS projects in 2022 are Tanjung Uban Fuel Terminal, Pulau Sambu Fuel Terminal, and Tanjung Sekong LPG Terminal with a potential capacity of up to 5 MWp and an 8 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS).
Whereas, some of Pertamina's external opportunities optimization are through SOEs synergies, synergies with government agencies and universities, commercial & industry (C&I), retail consumers, as well as mergers and acquisitions.
The utilization of NRE that is still very small and the big push of transition to environmentally friendly energy is a great opportunity for Pertamina NRE to pursue growth. The total installed capacity of 10 GW which is Pertamina's aspiration in 2026 is contributed from gas to power of 4 GW, 5 GW of NRE which includes geothermal, and 1 GW which is Pertamina NRE's future business, such as batteries and electric vehicles, hydrogen, carbon trading, as well as green industrial areas.**
