Bali, September 20, 2024 – PT Pertamina Patra Niaga continues to strengthen its role in supporting the energy transition in the aviation sector through Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) distribution. During the Bali International Airshow 2024 at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, Pertamina Patra Niaga supplied SAF to the national airline, Citilink, as part of a joint commitment to the SAF roadmap set by the Coordinating Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Investment (Kemenkomarives).
This SAF distribution demonstrates Pertamina Patra Niaga's commitment to providing sustainable fuel solutions for the aviation industry, which follows global efforts to reduce carbon emissions and achieve decarbonization targets.
“The first SAF distribution at Ngurah Rai Airport marks the capability of Indonesia to adapt to the energy mix demands of the international aviation industry, where SAF is currently a mid-term solution to reduce the carbon footprint of flights, without requiring changes to aircraft, airport infrastructure, or jet fuel supply chains,” said the President Director of PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, Riva Siahaan.
Pertamina’s SAF has met various international standards, including International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) for the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) program and the Renewable Energy Directive-European Union (RED-EU). Pertamina also ensures that SAF is safe to use, meets standards set by the American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM), and is registered as Corsia Eligible Fuel (CEF) by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
“This new step toward sustainable aviation could reduce carbon emissions from fossil fuels, as Pertamina’s SAF is a blend of renewable feedstocks, specifically Used Cooking Oil (UCO),” Riva added.
At the same event, the President Director of PT Citilink Indonesia, Dewa Rai, stated that the partnership with Pertamina Patra Niaga is a strategic step for Citilink in supporting carbon emission reduction, particularly in the aviation sector, which is increasingly critical for preserving the environment.
“Pertamina Patra Niaga fully supported our commitment to reduce carbon emission. We hope that in the future, Pertamina Patra Niaga will continue to increase SAF use to drive the sustainability of the aviation industry, in Indonesia and globally,” Dewa Rai said.
Dewa Rai further explained that, in the initial phase of this collaboration, Citilink successfully uplifted 30 KL of SAF for four days during the Bali International Airshow 2024. This achievement marks the first step in highlighting the great potential of SAF as a more environmentally friendly alternative fuel for the future of aviation.
In a separate statement, the VP of Corporate Communication of Pertamina, Fadjar Djoko Santoso, said that after partnering with international airlines, Pertamina Patra Niaga is now marketing SAF to national airlines to encourage SAF usage domestically.
“Pertamina Patra Niaga distributed SAF previously to Virgin Australia Airlines and now to Citilink. We hope SAF will be more widely adopted in the future and will certainly have a positive impact on reducing carbon emissions in both Indonesian and global aviation industries,” Fadjar explained.
Pertamina, as a leading company in the energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement. All these efforts align with Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) implementation across all Pertamina's business lines and operations.**
