Pertamina Prepares Human Resources to Drive Sustainability in Indonesia

Jakarta, June 3, 2024 - Strengthening its focus on sustainability, PT Pertamina (Persero) consistently prepares human resource talents to become drivers of sustainability in Indonesia. As a leader in energy transition, Pertamina is also building an ecosystem for sustainable human resources development through various collaborations.

Vice President of Corporate Communication of PT Pertamina (Persero), Fadjar Djoko Santoso, stated that Pertamina has undergone business and organizational transformations over the past five years. Now, it is time for Pertamina to significantly contribute by preparing high-quality human resources to drive sustainability in Indonesia. Pertamina has established the Pertamina Sustainability Academy (PSA), the first sustainability institution in Asia, which provides programs to educate talents on sustainable energy management.

“PSA has conducted several training programs, especially for internal Pertamina officers at various levels. Pertamina also opens opportunities for the government, ministries, educational institutions, and all community elements to gain knowledge in the field of sustainability, so we can collectively achieve NZE (Net Zero Emissions) by 2060,” Fadjar said.

Pertamina has also collaborated with various institutions, including ministries, domestic and international universities, national companies, and Pertamina's partners, to make Indonesia a global energy transition hub.

“Pertamina has initiated cooperation with strategic partners to jointly gain knowledge at the Pertamina Sustainability Academy, preparing for a future of emission-free Indonesia,” Fadjar added.

Fadjar emphasized that Indonesia has abundant natural resources that can be optimized for clean energy development. These significant potential and challenges in the energy transition must be addressed through increased collaboration with all stakeholders. According to research by Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF), Indonesia, with its rich plant-based resources, has the potential to attract global investors with a value of USD 3.5 trillion in the green energy sector.

“Collaboration among all parties in developing human resources and their infrastructure is the key to success in achieving sustainability,” asserted Fadjar.

Besides PSA, Pertamina also promotes sustainability education through internal communities, such as PERTIWI Pertamina, which consistently encourages sustainable and environmentally friendly lifestyles. Additionally, Universitas Pertamina prepares young graduates with sustainability skills.

Beyond education, through the Desa Energi Berdikari (DEB) program, Pertamina also invites village communities to develop the utilization of new renewable energy in their environment. This DEB program is part of Pertamina's social and environmental responsibility, currently implemented in 85 villages in Indonesia, effectively reducing emissions by up to 729,127 tons of CO2eq per year while promoting economic independence with economic benefits valued at IDR 2.5 billion.

“Pertamina recognizes the importance of collaboration among all community elements and institutions to enhance human resources competencies in the field of sustainability. Together, we can achieve sustainable energy targets and pave the way for economic development,” Fadjar said.

Pertamina, as a leading company in the energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement. All these efforts align with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) implementation across all Pertamina's business lines and operations.**
