Pertamina Prepares Millenial Startup for Pertamina Youthpreneur Program

Jakarta, November 3, 2020 - PT Pertamina (Persero) encourages digital startup development in Indonesia through Graduation Day – SWI NextGen. This event is held to draw Startup from the millennials, which is prepared to be a startup that is ready to develop and sustain.

Minister of Education and Culture, Nadiem Anwar Makarim, is also present virtually at the closing of SWI-NextGen, held during the last weekend of the month of October. In his greetings, Nadiem emphasizes that the event should be made as a learning media before coming to the real business world. "Hopefully, this will be a provision to contribute to the nation's economy later," he said.

Meanwhile, Vice President of Corporate Communication of Pertamina, Fajriyah Usman, added that the collaboration is in line with Pertamina's aim through its Partnership Program to grow a business mindset for the young people. "Pertamina has several programs that target millennials to be guided to become an entrepreneur and strong and independent MSMEs," she said.

Fajriyah gave an example; some of the programs include Pertamina Youthpreneur. This event is Pertamina's pilot project, which collaborates with digital startups to draw potential business and MSMEs owned by millenials with a maximum age of 40. Therefore they can continue to grow and be independent. This program will be held in November 2020.

Apart from that, the Pertamina Partnership Program also has a Santripreneur program. So, the students at the Islamic Boarding Schools will be provided with training regarding how to build a good and correct business. "Graduates of the pesantren will not only become Da'i but also become entrepreneurs and create MSMEs," she said.

Regarding the SWI-NextGen event itself, continued Fajriyah, this program has been carried out successfully. It has succeeded in cooperating with 25 campuses in 13 major cities in Indonesia. Nine hundred three students and other youth entered it and managed to generate 163 startup ideas, narrowing to 10 startups. "Then, the three best startups will get mentoring for three months and can register to join the Pertamina Youthpreneur program," she added.

At the Pertamina Youthpreneur event later, these startup business actors will again receive coaching from mentors who are competent in their fields. They will be prepared to become Pertamina's fostered partners guided to Go Modern, Go Digital, Go Online, and Go Global. Therefore, it is expected to be able to become excellent and independent entrepreneurs and MSMEs.

Fajriyah said that this effort is one form of implementing the Goal 8 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which is to support inclusive and sustainable economic growth and a full and productive workforce. "Where it is hoped that it can help people get decent jobs and encourage national economic growth," she concluded.
