Jakarta, July 17, 2024 – PT Pertamina (Persero) introduced the innovation of the Independent Energy Village (DEB) Dusun Bondan Cilacap at the 25th Appropriate Technology Exhibition, initiated by the Ministry of Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration (Kemendes PDTT) RI in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), from July 14 to 17, 2024.
Fadjar Djoko Santoso, Vice President of Corporate Communication of Pertamina, stated that Independent Energy Village is Pertamina's Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) program in rural areas to support energy resilience with renewable energy while improving the economy.
“The Independent Energy Village program focuses on utilizing clean energy based on the village's potential, thus impacting the energy resilience and independence,” Fadjar said.
Fadjar explained that Pertamina presented the Independent Energy Village program in Dusun Bondan, Ujungalang Village, Kampung Laut District, Cilacap, at the Appropriate Technology Exhibition. Pertamina demonstrated the innovation because Independent Energy Village Cilacap is one of the pilot projects for using clean energy with the Hybrid Energy One Pole (HEOP) technology, which combines solar cells and wind turbines since 2017. This technological innovation resulted in a hybrid power plant (PLTH) that illuminated Dusun Bondan from wind turbines and solar panels.
Dusun Bondan had struggled with electricity for decades due to its remote location. Pertamina facilitated a large-capacity PLTH technology comprising five wind turbines and 24 solar panels capable of lighting 78 houses and public facilities. PLTH is also used for fish farming activities and desalinating brackish water for consumption.
Through PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional (KPI) Refinery Unit IV Cilacap, Pertamina entrusted the local community with the management, ensuring the Independent Energy Village's sustainable operation. Dusun Bondan was designated an Energy Independent Village in 2019, 2020, and 2021 by the Central Java Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Office and received various other awards.
Nationally, Fadjar added, Pertamina has developed DEB at 85 locations across Indonesia. Pertamina utilizes five types of renewable energy: solar power plants, methane gas and biogas, micro-hydro, biodiesel, and hybrid energy from solar and wind power.
By the end of 2023, the DEB program produced 324,039 Wp (solar power), 609,000 m3/year (methane gas), 16,500 Wp (Hybrid/Solar & Wind), 28,000 Watts (micro-hydro), and 6,500 L/year (biodiesel). Pertamina's Independent Energy Village Program reduces carbon emissions by 729,127 tons of CO2eq annually.
“The DEB program is expanding to more villages, with the hope that more villages can become energy independent, positively impacting their economy and welfare,” Fadjar emphasized.
Pertamina, as a leading company in the energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement. All these efforts align with Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) implementation across all Pertamina's business lines and operations.**
