Mozambique, August 24, 2023 – Continuing its presence in Africa, this time in Mozambique, PT Pertamina (Persero), through PT Pertamina Internasional Eksplorasi dan Produksi (PIEP), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Buzi Hydrocarbons Pte. Ltd (BHPL).
Mozambique is the third country visited by the President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, in Africa this week. The Pertamina Group also participated as part of the Indonesian State-Owned Enterprises (SOE) delegation accompanying the President to explore potential projects and expand into the country.
"Pertamina is open to expansion that will bring positive impacts to the company and support bilateral cooperation between countries," stated Nicke Widyawati, CEO of PT Pertamina (Persero).
The signed Memorandum of Understanding between PIEP and BHPL outlines a joint commitment to assess oil and gas sector potential, including sharing data, as well as potential cooperation in the upstream, midstream, downstream, and gas power generation fields.
Buzi Hydrocarbons Pte. Ltd, a national private oil and gas company, has been operating in Mozambique for over ten years and holds a 75% participation interest in the Buzi field in Mozambique.
"In terms of upstream oil and gas, the Buzi field in Mozambique has attractive gas production potential for collaboration, and we believe that the team's expertise in managing oil and gas fields, not only in Indonesia but also internationally, can provide added value to many parties," expressed Jaffee A. Suardin, President Director of PT Pertamina Internasional EP, a subsidiary of Pertamina's Upstream Sub-holding.
The synergy within the Pertamina Group is also expected to be evident in this block’s future development, including Pertamina Drilling Service, Elnusa, and Pertamina Power Indonesia.
Meanwhile, Taufan Rotorasiko, President Director of BHPL, believes that PIEP's presence in the Buzi business will drive production and commercialization in the Buzi oil and gas field. "PIEP possesses the expertise, experience, and long-term strategy for the development and increased production, as well as the Buzi field’s commercialization," he said.
Prior to this collaboration, the Pertamina Group had already committed to expanding its global energy business in Mozambique. In the oil and gas sector, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) had been established with the GUMA Group.
Additionally, through its Subholding Integrated Marine Logistics, Pertamina is committed to establishing a Joint Venture engaged in LNG transportation, LNG export, LPG transportation service development, and marine logistics.
Pertamina, as a leading company in the energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement. All these efforts align with Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) implementation across all Pertamina's business lines and operations.**
