Jakarta, February 21, 2024 - PT Pertamina (Persero) is proactively realizing environmental sustainability to achieve emission reduction targets or Net Zero Emission Indonesia 2060. One initiative is Pertamina's participation in the 100,000 Tree Seedlings Planting Movement, initiated by the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (SOE).
Vice President of Corporate Communication of Pertamina, Fadjar Djoko Santoso, explained that the tree seedlings planting movement aims to make Indonesia greener and support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Point 13 (Climate Action) and Point 15 (Terrestrial Ecosystems). At the event, Pertamina distributed 8,621 tree seedlings in several strategic locations, including in the Thamrin-Sudirman area in Jakarta during Car Free Day (CFD) on February 18, greening in the Ancol area and the DKI Jakarta’s Provincial Government area.
Pertamina also collaborates with influencers and Environmental Movement Communities to instill awareness of the need to protect nature.
"This activity is also part of the National Press Day; we are fulfilling our commitment to tree planting programs as part of Pertamina's environmental social responsibility (TJSL). We hope that the distributed tree seedlings can grow well and in the long term, reduce emissions in Jakarta," explained Fadjar.
The manager of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of Pertamina, Dian Hapsari Firasati, added that apart from this activity, Pertamina has the Pertamina Forest program, where more than six million trees have been planted so far, spread across Pertamina's forests throughout Indonesia. The total area of Pertamina's forests reaches 629 hectares (ha), including 433 ha of mangrove plants and 196 ha of terrestrial trees.
Pertamina's role in tree planting aims to drive the Net Zero Emission target through emission reduction in the environment. This action contributes to the decarbonization of more than 120 thousand tons of CO2eq/year in carbon emissions absorption.
In addition to its impact on environmental preservation, this program also provides significant economic benefits to 4,783 beneficiaries, in the form of forest product trading and tourist destinations, with group income reaching an average of IDR 1.8 billion per year.
Pertamina, as a leading company in the energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement. All these efforts align with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) implementation across all Pertamina's business lines and operations.**
