Jakarta, October 1, 2020 – PT Pertamina (Persero) collaborates with KUMPUL, nine local partners and more than 20 universities in Indonesia to create young Indonesian entrepreneurs with the Startup Weekend Indonesia Program – The NextGen. The event, held throughout October 2020 on weekends, involves thousands of university students from top universities in Indonesia.
This event is supported by the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education, and the Ministry of Tourism. Startup Weekend Indonesia – The NextGen with Pertamina collaborates to obtain startups, which later will be guided through the Pertamina Youthpreneur program. It is Pertamina's effort to encourage the creation of entrepreneurs from the Millenials.
Vice President of Corporate Communication of Pertamina, Fajriyah Usman, said that the collaboration is in line with Pertamina's aim to develop entrepreneurial spirit for young people through the Partnership Program. "We are sure that students have a fresh and creative mind to develop into a successful entrepreneur," she said.
Before getting into the main event, Fajriyah added that the participants will undergo orientation held on Thursday (1/10). Several reliable presenters have been prepared to provide provisions for students. Through this event held in various cities, Pertamina will convey several things about the Partnership Program. Students will be given an overview of the benefits of joining the program. Therefore, when they start to enter the business world, or form MSMEs, they can become part of Pertamina's fostered partners with many benefits.
Several well-known campuses in Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya, Yogyakarta, Malang, and other big cities will be involved. Fajriyah hopes that students can take advantage of this momentum to prepare themselves before becoming entrepreneurs. "For students who have not or have started a business, this event is a good place to enrich their insights into becoming a good entrepreneur," she concluded.
Meanwhile, CEO & Co-Founder of KUMPUL, Faye Wongso, explained that the first day will be team and ideas building from participants. The second day will have sessions from speakers, mentoring, and startup formation. The final day of training will be the presentations and showing their work to the judges. "The best startups will be selected for Demo Day, and the three best startups will get mentoring for three months," explained Faye.
According to Faye, the Startup Weekend Indonesia NextGen can be followed by thousands of people aged 18-25. More than 20 universities hold the event and there are more than 20 individual events during the month of October 2020. For 54 hours, the event will be forming and realizing Startup ideas accompanied by the best mentors in Indonesia. Activities in each city at various universities are fully organized by local partners of Kumpul: Ngalup.co, Ruang & Tempo, KEMBALI, MeetUp, Startup Borneo, Innovative Academy, and Satu Tampa.**
