November 4, 2021 – Pertamina's Upstream Subholding implements sustainable environmental management in the upstream oil and gas business process. It follows Pertamina's commitment to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) implementation.
With a focus on sustainability of tackling climate change or reducing environmental impacts, Upstream Subholding carries out various programs throughout the Region, especially the Java and Kalimantan Regions.
"These programs also support the Government of Indonesia to realize the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)," said Arya Dwi Paramita, Corporate Secretary of Pertamina's Upstream Subholding, Tuesday (02/11).
Arya added that Pertamina's Upstream Subholding is running two main projects. Namely, energy efficiency and emission reduction. It also plans to implement renewable energy through the use of Solar Panels.
"Energy efficiency in the Upstream Subholding is carried out through reducing fossil fuels, increasing engine reliability and efficiency, and optimizing production systems. With various programs carried out, the emission reduction target reaches 33,296 tons of CO2eq and records a potential cost efficiency of up to IDR 66.4 billion,'' explained Arya Dwi Paramita.
In addition, emission reductions are carried out through flare deactivation programs, gas flare reductions, and gas utilization. In its implementation, the Upstream Subholding has recorded an emission reduction target of up to 83,895 tons of CO2eq.
"There are still other programs planned and prepared by the Upstream Subholding. Therefore, the contribution to emission reductions will continue to increase," Arya added.
Upstream Subholding has also planned renewable energy applications through Solar Panels, which contribute to emission reductions.
"Upstream Subholding will continue to support the company's performance in achieving ESG following the targets set by Pertamina," concluded Arya.**
