Jakarta, January 31, 2024 - The Self-Reliant Energy School (SEB), initiated by Pertamina in June 2023, has successfully provided education to 4,685 students to familiarize them with clean energy. Until today, the SEB Program has been implemented in ten schools across Sumatra, Java, Bali, Maluku, and Papua.
The ten schools that have become part of the SEB Program are SMK Negeri 2 Dumai, SMA Negeri 14 Palembang (Sumatera), SMA Negeri 40 Jakarta Utara, SMK Merdeka Bandung, SMA Negeri 3 Cilacap, SMP Negeri 7 Cirebon, SMA Negeri 14 Semarang (Jawa) SMA Negeri 8 Denpasar (Bali) SMP Negeri 1 Tidore (Maluku), and SMA Negeri 6 Sorong (Papua).
Vice President of Corporate Communication of Pertamina, Fadjar Djoko Santoso, stated that Pertamina continues to encourage the involvement of young generations in developing clean and environmentally friendly energy by expanding the Self-Reliant Energy School (SEB) throughout the country.
"This is Pertamina's step in implementing ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) while also instilling environmental awareness in young generations to actively participate in reducing carbon emissions," Fadjar said.
SEB students receive education on energy transition and the clean energy utilization. This education also involves 230 officers and 141 Sobat Bumi scholarship recipients in educational and environmental action activities.
The SEB Program creates environmental innovation as a driver to support the Adiwiyata (Environment-Based School) predicate. At the same time, Pertamina provides education on environmental management and productive tree planting in schools.
Pertamina also organizes an Upcycling Competition & Expo, a space for students to innovate and create products from unused items into items with higher value and usefulness.
As a concrete manifestation of clean energy usage, Pertamina has installed Solar Power Plants (PLTS) in every Self-Reliant Energy School. Pertamina provides solar panels with a capacity of 3.3 kWp and a battery capacity of 5 kWh. The total installed PLTS capacity reaches 33 kWp with a battery capacity of 50 kWh.
The SEB Program will reduce carbon emissions by 42,000 kgCO2eq/year and save Rp 70 million per year.
Fadjar added that the Self-Reliant Energy School is Pertamina's Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) program as a form of implementation and contribution to a sustainable future while supporting the achievement of NZE 2060.
Headmaster of SMA Negeri 8 Denpasar, I Wayan Sucipta, expressed gratitude for Pertamina's presence in the school, educating the students and teachers about energy transition and clean energy use.
"Pertamina has provided education to our students and teachers. It is exciting for us, opening our minds that now this earth is ours and tomorrow it will belong to our children and grandchildren. If we do not take care of it now with full awareness, it will surely become a problem later," he said.
He is delighted because Pertamina has assisted in installing PLTS at his school for teaching and learning activities.
"Pertamina has assisted with solar panels, which we will use to the best of our ability for our electricity needs. We will also use it to teach the children that there is an abundant energy source that we have not fully optimized," he added.
Pertamina, as a leading company in the energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement. All these efforts align with Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) implementation across all Pertamina's business lines and operations.**
