PHR and PNRE Conduct Groundbreaking for PLTS Development with 25 MW Capacity

Pekanbaru, April 23, 2022 – Pertamina Hulu Rokan (PHR) and Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE) will begin a series of processes for the construction of Solar Power Plants (PLTS) to support carbon emission reductions and the Government's target of accelerating the energy transition and transitioning the energy mix to New and Renewable Energy (NRE).The PLTS will occupy 28.16 hectares area in three locations, namely Rumbai, Duri, and Dumai Camp, and is expected to produce 25 Mega Watts to support operational activities in WK Rokan.

The PLTS construction was marked by a groundbreaking event attended by the Director of Logistics and Infrastructure of Pertamina (Persero), Mulyono, Commissioner of Pertamina NRE, David Bingei, CEO of Pertamina NRE, Dannif Danusaputro, President Director of PT PHR, Jaffee A. Suardin, Director of Strategic Planning & Business Development of Pertamina NRE, Fadli Rahman, Director of Projects and Operations of Pertamina NRE, Norman Ginting, and Head of SKK Migas Sumbagut Representative, Rikky Rahmat Firdaus.

“This PLTS project is a role model and one of the largest in Indonesia. The PLTS, expected to produce 25 MW,  is part of Pertamina's plan to reach 200 MW. Through the construction of this PLTS, WK Rokan gains an efficiency of USD 5 million," said Mulyono.

“Solar energy as new renewable energy is not just a global trend adopted in Indonesia. The transition to sustainable green energy is a priority for the country," said Jaffee at the event opening. “In this case, PHR participates in supporting the Government's target through the Grand National Energy Strategy to accelerate the energy transition and the target of the energy mix from New and Renewable Energy (NRE) by 23% by 2025 and achieving net-zero emissions in 2060 with a medium-term of 29%. -41% in 2030.”

Rokan WK PLTS will be one of Pertamina's clean energy showcases at the G20 event. Pertamina NRE will continue to collaborate with all stakeholders to realize a sustainable energy transition," said Dannif in his speech.

Pertamina Hulu Rokan (PHR) and Pertamina NRE signed a memorandum of understanding on November 15, 2021, to provide a Solar Power Plant for Pertamina's Rokan working area. Pertamina NRE and PHR have collaborated to carry out a feasibility study of the project's first phase, which proved not to interfere with PHR electrical system's reliability. This project will also optimize domestic components utilization following government regulations regarding TKDN.

Indonesia has the advantage of a geographical location that has the potential for solar energy. Solar panels with photovoltaic technology will be installed using two methods, namely ground-mounted and roof-mounted. The captured solar energy is then converted through an inverter so that the electrical energy, is then used in the Rokan WK.

Through this PLTS, the expected impact is reducing carbon emissions by 23,000 tons per year andfuel gas utilization reduction by 352 MMSCF per year and saving operating costs of USD 4.3 million per year. Moreover, PLTS also helps reduce global warming, leading to climate change.

As part of Pertamina's Upstream Subholding, PHR continues to adhere to its commitment in implementing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) aspects in managing its business. Pertamina took a significant role in the G20 Indonesia Presidency, where the President Director of Pertamina, Nicke Widyawati, served as Chair of the Energy, Sustainability, and Climate (ESC) Task Force of Business 20 (B20), which is a space for international business dialogue that is part of an important G20 agenda.**
