Dumai, April 6, 2022 – Pertamina’s internal energy transition continues. Pertamina NRE, which is at the forefront of Pertamina's energy transition, has completed the provision of a 2 MW Solar Power Plant (PLTS) in the Dumai Refinery area.
PLTS in the Dumai Refinery adds to the list of Pertamina refineries converted to the utilization of environmentally friendly electrical energy. Last year an installed capacity of 1.34 MW PLTS was operated in the Cilacap Refinery area.
“Pertamina NRE is fully committed to realizing Pertamina's energy transition. The PLTS in the Cilacap Refinery of 1.34 MW, the Dumai Refinery of 2 MW, and the PLTS at 143 petrol stations of more than 1 MW are part of our initial steps to make the energy transition within Pertamina. Pertamina's internal PLTS potential is quite large, reaching around 500 MW. With the support and solid cooperation in the Pertamina Group, we are optimistic that we can make it happen," said Corporate Secretary of Pertamina NRE Dicky Septriadi.
PLTS in the Dumai Refinery is a ground-mounted PLTS built on a 2 hectares area with an on-grid system and is currently the largest ground-mounted PLTS in Riau. The Dumai Refinery PLTS will supply electricity to residential facilities belonging to the Dumai Refinery. The estimated percentage of clean energy supply can meet around 20-30% of the overall electricity demand in the area.
The potential electricity produced reaches 2.5 GWh in a year and has the potential to reduce CO2 by 2,052 tons per year. The potential for reducing emissions is also equivalent to the absorption of CO2 by 97,000 trees in a year.
“In line with the commitment to ESG, PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional has implemented various supporting programs, one of which is decarbonization. This is carried out by using PLTS for offices and workers' residential complexes at the Dumai and Cilacap refineries," said Corporate Secretary of PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional Ifki Sukarya.
Pertamina is fully committed to implementing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) aspects in managing its business. Concerning the G20 Indonesia presidency, Pertamina took a major role in which President Director of Pertamina, Nicke Widyawati, was appointed as Chair of the Energy, Sustainability, and Climate (ESC) Task Force of Business 20 (B20), which is a space for international business dialogue that is part of the G20 agenda.**
