Cilacap, June 12, 2021 - The President Director of PT Pertamina (Persero) directly monitors the handling of incidents in the storage tank area at the Cilacap Refinery. She also offers her support to the Subholding Refinery & Petrochemical in handling the incident.
The Pertamina Cilacap Refinery emergency team is now extinguishing the remaining fire in the bundwall and pipe area of one of the unfinished Benzene product storage tanks at the Cilacap Refinery, Central Java.
President Director of PT Pertamina (Persero), Nicke Widyawati, conveyed that one fire point had been extinguished, but one more hotspot emerged, which currently must be resolved. The Subholding Refinery & Petrochemical PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional (KPI) management was immediately asked to isolate and anticipate the hotspots from spreading.
"We ask the Emergency Team to focus immediately on resolving the fire points that are still happening and thank God there were no casualties. The safety standards applied by the Cilacap refinery are good. It is just a matter of time. The handling must be more offensive, and the cooling process continues," explained Nicke.
Furthermore, in this incident, Nicke emphasized two things. First, refinery operations are not disrupted and are still running as usual. Second, service to the community and customers continues to be carried out well.
"Our commitment to providing fuel and LPG to the community will not be disturbed, and all commitments to customers specifically for benzene have been fulfilled. There are no issues with customer supply. We have backups from TPPI. Benzene for industrial customers has no problems," she said.
Nicke also conveyed appreciation and gratitude to all stakeholders support to Pertamina and the Subholding Refinery & Petrochemical in handling this incident.
