Jakarta, October 11, 2021 - President Director of PT Pertamina (Persero), Nicke Widyawati, gains international achievements and recognition by re-entering Fortune Magazine's 100 Most Powerful Women International. Ranked 17th, Nicke was chosen along with several global CEOs, including Emma Walmsley, CEO of GlaxoSmithKline (1), Jessica Tan, CEO of Ping An Group (2), Ana Botin, CEO of Banco Santander (3), and Shemara R Wikramanayake CEO Macquarie Group Ltd (4). Under Nicke, among others, Hanneke Faber, President of Global Foods & Refreshment Unilever (23), Hilde Merete Aasheim, CEO of Norsk Hydro (24), Alexandra Keith, CEO of P&G (37), and Helen Wong, CEO of OCBC NISP (41).
Fortune International magazine admits that Nicke Widyawati's achievement as the highest leader of an energy company in Indonesia has been proven by her ability to overcome the triple shock challenge. Namely, the fall in oil prices, the decline in fuel demand, and the pressure on the exchange rate experienced by Pertamina during the 2020 pandemic. According to Fortune, these three factors have reduced Pertamina's revenue and profit. However, in the first semester of 2021, Pertamina was able to show better conditions by achieving the oil and gas production target under Nicke's leadership.
This prestigious global magazine also admits that Nicke continues to support Indonesia's energy transition by building a portfolio of New Renewable Energy (NRE) to provide clean energy for the country in the future.
"This recognition is clear evidence of the great international trust in Pertamina, which continues to move for energy transition," said Nicke.
According to Nicke, during her leadership at Pertamina, she has planned and focused on carrying out energy transition and decarbonization steps in the company's operations from upstream to downstream. It is in line with Pertamina's Environment, Social & Governance (ESG) aspects implementation, which experienced a significant increase from a score of 41.6 or Several Risk category (February 2021) to 28.1 (Medium Risk) in September 2021. Improvements in score have placed Pertamina in the 15th rank of companies in the industry and 8th in the world's Oil and Gas Sub-Industry.
Nicke said that Pertamina's position as a medium category company in implementing ESG was also shared by global companies Repsol, ENI, PTT Public Co, and TotalEnergies. This position is above Royal Dutch Shell, BP, and Exxon Mobil, in the High-Risk category. While Chevron, Petrobras, and Petronas are considered to be in the Severe Risk category.
The rating has increased due to Pertamina's planned actions to save the climate and energy transition to net-zero, namely operational decarbonization, the form of a portfolio for green growth investment, as well as accelerating innovation and green growth.
"Together with all Pertamina's management and workers, I will ensure that all strategic initiatives to realize the green transition continues. Therefore, we can achieve the target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions between 29 - 41 percent by 2030," she concluded.**
