Reaching 160 Million Cubic Feet Level, PHM Supports Additional National Oil and Gas Production Through Gas Production Increase in the Sisi Nubi Field

Jakarta, October 26, 2022 – PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam (PHM), part of Zone 8 Kalimantan Region, Pertamina's Upstream Subholding, increased its contribution to the national gas production achievement through the Sisi Nubi Offshore Field. Its production level increased to 160 MMscfd (million standard cubic feet) on October 20, 2022. Previously, the Sisi Nubi field experienced a declining phase to 60 MMscfd levels in July 2020.

Currently, the Sisi Nubi field contributes almost 30% of gas production from the Mahakam Working Area (WK). Previously, the highest achievement was in November 2019.

The General Manager of PHM, Krisna, said that the PHM gas production increase was a positive impact of the oil and gas incentives given by the government to PHM in 2021 in accelerating depreciation and VAT exemptions. Therefore, PHM could build additional platforms and drill new wells to support increased production.

“We implement drilling practices that are more effective, efficient, and faster in finding new oil and gas resources from exploration and development (exploitation) activities. This achievement is the company's work program realization supported by the government’s oil and gas incentives approval," said Krisna.

Krisna explained that this increase in production was the new platform wells contribution in North Sisi and North Nubi, which began operating in June and August 2022, as well as the maintenance and intervention program for existing wells.

“Production's sustainability at the Sisi Nubi Field is supported by the production facilities' reliability that has undergone a systematic maintenance program and regular pipe inspections. Moreover, this increase in field production can be realized thanks to good collaboration between all related functions, including Subsurface Development & Planning, Project, Drilling & Intervention, and Production Operations," explained Krisna.

According to him, the success achieved by PHM in the Sisi Nubi field cannot be separated from SKK Migas and PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI) as the parent company's support. The program for drilling new wells in this field is still ongoing and is expected to contribute to the national gas production addition from Mahakam.

"We are committed to continue investing and drilling new wells as a strategic step in restraining the decline in natural products and maintaining oil and gas production levels to support the 2030 national oil and gas production target achievement," conveyed Krisna.

The Sisi field was discovered in 1986, and the Nubi field was discovered in 1992. Gas reserves from the Sisi Nubi field are produced through several offshore platforms and flowed through a 26” pipe to the SNPS Slugcatcher and then treated at the Tunu Processing Facilities.
