Pertamina utilizes green energy jargas to meet the energy needs of household, commercial, and industrial sectors.

Ready to Develop Sustainable Energy in IKN, This is Pertamina's Green Energy Portfolio

Jakarta, June 4, 2024 - Leading the energy transition, PT Pertamina (Persero) continues to enhance the utilization of green energy to support sustainability and achieve the Indonesian Government's Net Zero Emission (NZE) target by 2060. This portfolio serves as Pertamina's source of innovation to be developed in the National Capital Integrated Coastal Development (IKN) and realize its aspirations as a global capital.

Vice President of Corporate Communication of Pertamina, Fadjar Djoko Santoso, stated that Indonesia possesses abundant renewable energy sources. From gas reserves and biomass energy to natural-based solutions (NBS) to become low-carbon and environmentally friendly alternative energy sources.

"We are currently deepening nature-based solutions that have the potential to become one of the energy sources in IKN, considering the need to preserve the vast green areas in IKN to become a sustainable ecosystem," he explained.

Fadjar added that Pertamina, through Perusahaan Gas Negara, has prepared a gas network (jargas) in IKN. Initially, jargas is expected to become an energy source for 166 Civil Servant Housing towers and 34 ministerial residences domiciled in IKN.

Fadjar revealed that the opportunities for using new renewable energy in IKN will continue to be developed, especially the sustainable research and innovation centers established by Pertamina.

Pertamina's Green Energy Variety

He explained that Pertamina currently manages various low-carbon clean energy portfolios in Indonesia. This energy source utilization aligns with the geographical conditions of each region.

"Indonesia has diverse energy potentials, in line with the demographics of each region. Pertamina will strive to manage them optimally, thus accelerating the energy transition towards clean energy," Fadjar emphasized.

As a new renewable energy source, Pertamina managed power plants that use geothermal, steam, biogas from palm oil waste, and solar energy.

For densely populated areas, Pertamina utilizes various low-carbon energy sources, such as the flagship gas sub-holding program, jargas, used for household, industrial, and transportation needs. In 2021, household gas use was intensified, and by the end of 2023, Pertamina had built this network for 290,400 House Connections.

In the transportation sector, Pertamina provides Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Fueling Stations in various cities such as Jakarta, Bekasi, Bogor, Semarang, Palembang, Balikpapan, Subang, Prabumulih, Sukabumi, Purwakarta, Serang, Cilegon, Lampung, Batam, Surabaya, Gresik, and Bandung. The total number of CNG stations in Pertamina Group is 72.

"Pertamina promotes gas as a low-emission transitional fuel to support public transportation sectors," Fadjar added.

Pertamina also continues to develop bioenergy fuels derived from vegetables, such as biodiesel, bioethanol, and bioavtur. Moreover, it has also started developing hydrogen energy for electric vehicles, which will become part of the EV Charging Station ecosystem.

Various carbon-negative energy initiatives are also reinforced, such as Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage (CCUS) and NBS projects. On the other hand, facilitated by Pertamina New and Renewable Energy sub-holding, all Pertamina Group entities actively engage in carbon trading on the Indonesia Stock Exchange carbon market.

"Pertamina NRE will be the market aggregator in this carbon trading, especially for the carbon potential of the Pertamina Group. We also invite all state-owned and non-state-owned companies to be active in this carbon trading, becoming a market aggregator for the needs of all parties. Thus, Indonesia can achieve the NZE target quickly," added Fadjar.

Pertamina, as a leading company in the energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement. All these efforts align with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) implementation across all Pertamina's business lines and operations.**
