Jakarta, March 22, 2021 - PT Pertamina (Persero) through its subsidiary PT Pertamina Hulu Rokan (PHR) continues to ensure its readiness in managing the Rokan Work Area (WK), one of which by creating a synergy between SOEs in the utilization of electricity supply from PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) for oil and gas production operations in Rokan WK, ahead of management transfer which coincides with national momentum in August 2021.
Based on data, with average production in the range of 161 thousand barrels per day, currently, Rokan WK requires an electricity supply of up to 400 Megawatts (MW) and steam of 335 thousand standard barrels per day (MBSPD).
To guarantee the supply of electricity and steam in the operations of the Rokan WK, PLN and PHR have agreed and signed the Electricity and Steam Power Purchase Agreement (PJBTLU) on February 1, 2021.
From that agreement, PLN will carry out two stages to ensure that the electricity supply in the operation of the Rokan WK is available. In the first stage, the transition period by utilizing the existing power plant which will last for 3 years, starting on August 9, 2021. As for the second stage, the permanent service period will rely on PLN's generators and network which will start in 2024.
“The synergy of National Electricity SOEs will create a more efficient operation because Pertamina believes that electricity supply from PLN is more reliable with the development of interconnection network of systems and main powerhouse as well as can be backed up from other power plants so that it can increase the capacity of electricity supply for the operational activities of Rokan WK,” said Senior Vice President Corporate Communication & Investor Relation of Pertamina, Agus Suprijanto in Jakarta (22/3).
Agus Suprijanto added that Pertamina as the holding company will oversee the performance of PHR to ensure the process of management transfer of Rokan WK runs well to maintain national oil and gas production which around 25% of it contributed from the production of Rokan WK. The production is obtained from five large fields, namely Duri, Minas, Bangko, Balam South, and Petapahan which are spread across five districts in Riau Province.
“Considering that Rokan WK is classified as mature, Pertamina will utilize the latest technology and has prepared a long-term program to restrain the decline of oil production in Rokan WK,” he said.
Agus stated that several efforts have been done to maintain the production of Rokan WK, including the process of preparing and completing permit, the process of transferring workers, ensuring the transfer of goods and services contracts, and data transfer from existing operators went smoothly.
“Pertamina continues to build communication with the Government to assure investment, smooth running of the PHR drilling program at Rokan WK throughout 2021, namely 84 wells consisting of 44 development wells and 40 additional wells,” said Agus.
Besides the drilling development wells, added Agus, for long-term, other programs are also being prepared such as Infill Drilling, exploration wells drilling, workover/well intervention, waterflood and steam flood programs optimization, as well as other programs that add to reserve.
"As an SOE, which has been delegated to manage national oil and gas, Pertamina needs the support of the Government and all stakeholders to ensure the future of Rokan Work Area to be more beneficial for the nation and the state," said Agus.**
