Reducing LPG Usage, Government Encourages Gas Networks Utilization in Households

June 1, 2024 - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), through the Directorate General of Oil and Gas (Migas), continues to encourage natural gas utilization by the public, one of which is through the household gas network (Jargas) program.

The Director of Oil and Gas Engineering and Environment of the Ministry of ESDM, Noor Arifin Muhammad, stated that utilizing natural gas for the Jargas program can reduce LPG usage. "We can utilize domestic gas production to replace LPG, as well as reduce imports and subsidies," he said while inspecting one of the homes receiving the Jargas program in Semarang, Central Java, on Friday (31/5).

Looking ahead, Noor hopes that the Jargas program can be expanded more widely and its penetration can be intensified, considering that using natural gas follows the government's roadmap for the transition to clean energy.

Furthermore, Noor mentioned that the Directorate General of Oil and Gas will always support the safety and security aspects of the Jargas program, both for customers and the companies executing the Jargas projects.

"We always support the network and installation in terms of safety and operational reliability to ensure it is safe and dependable. We also support the builders of this Jargas, in this case, PGN," he said.

Meanwhile, the Director of Infrastructure and Technology of PT PGN, Harry Budi Sidharta, stated that Jargas is a program that provides a better energy alternative to the public because it is more environmentally friendly and cheaper.

"Jargas is also a more reliable energy source in terms of availability for the public to carry out their daily activities," he said.

Harry mentioned that PGN has a target of up to 250,000 Jargas connections per year, with a total target of four million connections over the next five years. "We hope that these Jargas connections can improve the community's economy and that people can enjoy clean energy at a more affordable price," he concluded.**
