Rumah BUMN Pertamina Holds Halal Day to Support MSEs Go Global with Halal Products

Jakarta, May 18, 2021 - Business certificate or license greatly affects the business development undertaken by micro and small enterprises (MSEs). By pocketing these, the level of trust and quality of MSE products are guaranteed. For this reason, PT Pertamina (Persero), through the Rumah BUMN (RB), facilitates its fostered partners by holding Halal Day 2021.

The virtually held event collaborates with several competent parties related to halal product certification. Among them are the Indonesia Halal Lifestyle Center (IHLC), LPPOM MUI, and Sucofindo. There were also inspirational halal business MSEs whose work had succeeded in penetrating the international market and going global.

Vice President of CSR & SMEPP Management of Pertamina Arya Dwi Paramita opened the event attended by more than 200 participants. In his speech, Arya explained the importance of halal certification for business owners. "Products that are halal certified are more competitive than products that do not include a halal label on their products," he said.

For this reason, continued Arya, Pertamina, through the Rumah BUMN Program, provides facilities for entrepreneurs to develop their products. To go through essential stages or what is commonly called a guidance roadmap, starting from traditional, Go Modern, Go Digital, Go Online, and finally being able to penetrate the National to Global market, including halal certification.

In line with Arya, Chairman of the Indonesian Halal Lifestyle Center (IHLC), Sapta Nirwandar, said Indonesia is a country with the largest Muslim community in the world. Therefore Indonesia can become the axis of the global halal economy. "Not only culinary, but also in the cosmetic sector, fashion, even digital works such as music and other," said Sapta.

The former Deputy Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Indonesia Bersatu Cabinet II for the 2011-2014 period, added that currently, the halal trend is also expanding. It is starting to be popular with millennials. So it needs adjustments, one of which is related to digitization. "Halal must be easy to trace with a digital system, so that it makes it easier for people to know whether the product is halal or not," he added.

Sapta also gave some tips so that MSEs can quickly become MSEs that Go Halal and Go Global. Namely by improving the quality starting from the selection of raw materials, processing, to packaging. In addition, it also utilizes market intelligence, namely by collaborating with other countries with significant potential for halal products.

Meanwhile, Acting Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications & Investor Relations of Pertamina, Fajriyah Usman, said that currently, Pertamina has several programs to connect MSEs with foreign parties through the Partnership Program. Like the Business Forum, which was held at the Pertamina SMEXPO 2020 event.

"Pertamina is working with Indonesia Diaspora SME-SMI Export Empowerment & Development (ID-SEED), namely Indonesian Diaspora organizations in various countries to assist MSEs in marketing their products in the global market," explained Fajriyah.

Through the Rumah BUMN, Pertamina wants to provide the energy that drives the economy--energy that becomes fuel and energy that generates sustainable growth.

Pertamina always supports the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) achievement through implementing ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) based programs in all of its operational areas. It is part of the environmental and social responsibility to realize economic benefits in the community.**
