Significant Increase: Pertamina's 2023 TJSL Reaches 344 Thousand Beneficiaries Across Indonesia

Jakarta, June 12, 2024 - Pertamina's Social and Environmental Responsibility (Tanggung Jawab Sosial dan Lingkungan/TJSL) programs throughout 2023 reached 344,000 beneficiaries across Indonesia, an increase from 310,000 recipients in 2022. Throughout 2023, Pertamina's various TJSL programs contributed to the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Agenda.

Fadjar Djoko Santoso, the Vice President of Corporate Communication of Pertamina, stated that Pertamina has established six priority SDGs: Goal 12, Responsible Consumption and Production; Goal 13, Climate Action; Goal 14, Life Below Water; Goal 15, Life on Land; Goal 7, Affordable and Clean Energy; and Goal 8, Decent Work and Economic Growth. However, other goals are also targeted based on the specific needs of each TJSL area.

"The TJSL programs are conducted sustainably, including providing clean energy in rural areas, nature conservation, developing public, social, and religious facilities, empowering people with disabilities, providing scholarships, and developing MSMEs. All of these initiatives aim to improve the welfare of communities and the environment, thereby contributing to regional and national economic growth," said Fadjar.

In terms of utilizing clean energy in rural areas, Fadjar added, Pertamina has implemented the Desa Energi Berdikari (DEB/Independent Energy Village) program in 85 regions across Indonesia. This program is also supported by the Pertamina Forest program, which has planted three million land and mangrove trees.

"In 2023, this program successfully reduced carbon emissions by 715,000 tons of CO2 per year, becoming a concrete program to support Indonesia's net-zero emission (NZE) target. It aligns with SDG Goal 7, Affordable and Clean Energy, and Goal 13, Climate Action," emphasized Fadjar.

In 2023, Fadjar continued, Pertamina's TJSL programs have built various public infrastructures, including 72 km of roads in 32 regencies/cities, 107 places of worship in 44 regencies/cities, 52 classrooms in 22 regencies/cities, and provided clean water access at 33 points in nine regencies and cities.

Pertamina has also supported the communities’ health and welfare through 27 ambulance units in 27 regencies and cities, distributing 948 Sobat Bumi scholarships and training to 1,900 people with disabilities to enhance their job competencies.

"Pertamina involved more than 1,600 officers in various TJSL programs so they could integrate with the community," added Fadjar.

In empowering Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), Pertamina has conducted 973 MSME development activities involving over 26,000 MSME participants. The goal is to enable MSMEs, the backbone of Indonesia's economy, to progress, become independent, and penetrate global markets.

Pertamina, as a leading company in the energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement. All these efforts align with Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) implementation across all Pertamina's business lines and operations.**
