Speed up Cleaning in Residential Area, 800 people to Participate in Cleaning Activity

Balikpapan, 8 April 2018 About 800 people, consist of Pertamina workers, West Balikpapan residents and the Regional Representative Council members participated in the cleaning on Sunday (08/04). The activity which is the regular agenda of the Community Empowerment Agency (LPM) in Margasari Sub-district was implemented in a bigger scale to support the acceleration of cleaning the villages near Pertamina refinery, prior to the oil spill incident. 

The cleaning was held in three sub-districts in West Balikpapan namely Margasari, Kampung Baru Ulu and Kampung Baru Tengah sub-districts.

The Head of LPM Margasari Usman Daming said that the cleaning program is a monthly activities of the people in Margasari.

Usman also said that with no consideration, the people are very enthusiastic to participate in the activities initiated by the Regional Representative Council (DPRD) and which was fully supported by Pertamina. 

Mrs. Nurjanah, resident of RT 13 also stated the same. She said that her participation in the cleaning activities was based on her concern towards the environment. Moreover, Pertamina has established a very good relationship with local people so that they will gladly help on the effort of handling the incident.

Aside of the cleaning activity, Pertamina also conduct monitoring and air condition testing. As of today (08/04) the Oxygen level is in normal range with 19 – 23% whereas carbon level is below 20 ppm, combustible gas below 5% LEL and H2S below 10 ppm. The result of the examination today, Oxygen level is at 20,8%, carbon 0 ppm, combustible gas 0% and H2S 0 ppm. 

Region Manager Comm. & CSR Pertamina Kalimantan Yudy Nugraha said that the response of oil spill around Balikpapan coastal area has entered the monitoring phase. From the site inspection and airborne monitoring, Balikpapan coastline are clean from spills.

“Currently, the cleaning focus is on the residential areas. However, we are still monitor the affected areas regularly”, said Yudy.
