Strengthening Internal Controls, Pertamina Implements SMAP & WBS

Jakarta, October 9, 2020 – PT Pertamina (Persero) increasingly strengthen its internal control through Anti-Bribery Management System (SMAP) as stated in ISO 37001-2016 and Whistle Blower System (WBS) as a channel for complaints of alleged violations committed by Pertamina and its partners.

Vice President of Corporate Communication of Pertamina, Fajriyah Usman, explained that the implementation of SMAP has become a management concern to be carried out within Pertamina, both at the head office or holding and operating units and subsidiaries.

"The implementation of the anti-bribery system that is following international standards in the operating units and subsidiaries is expected to increase management's awareness and prudence in managing the entire business, especially the procurement process which is prone to abuse," she said.

Fajriyah added that several business units and subsidiaries had obtained ISO 37001-2016 certificates. It includes the Procurement Share Service, Procurement Marketing Operation Region (MOR) III, Procurement Refinery Unit VI Balongan, Upstream Business Activities, PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam, PT Elnusa, Tbk, and PT Pertamina EP Cepu.

"Management will ensure that the certification process for all operating units and subsidiaries will continue to ensure that ISO implementation has been carried out throughout Pertamina's business processes," she added.

Even though SMAP has been implemented, according to Fajriyah, Pertamina also still opens channels for complaints from the public. Suppose the public finds any behavior or actions that violate the code of ethics and behavior carried out in Pertamina's business environment. "The complaint system through WBS has been implemented since 2008 and is one of the parameters in the Good Corporate Government assessment set by the Government. We are open to receiving public complaints. The public does not need to worry about complaining about violations that have been seen or heard directly, because each report can be done anonymously without the publication of the identity of the reporter," she concluded.**
