Supporting Vocational Tower Program, PHR WK Rokan Signs MoU with Two Polytechnics in Riau
Pekanbaru, 8 December 2021 – PT Pertamina Hulu Rokan (PHR) Rokan Working Area (WK) demonstrated its commitment to support the creation of skilled workers in the region through vocational education. After launching a training-certification program for Bengkalis and Rokan Hilir residents last week, today (7/12), PHR WK Rokan signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with two vocational higher education institutions in Riau, namely the Bengkalis State Polytechnic ( Polbeng) and Caltex Riau Polytechnic (PCR).
The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding was carried out at the Regional Building of the Riau Governor's Hall Serindit, Pekanbaru, in line with the momentum for the launch of the Vocational Tower national program. VP Corporate Affairs PHR WK Rokan, Sukamto Tamrin, Director of Polbeng, Jonny Custer, S.T., M.T., and Director of PCR, Dr. Mohammad Yanuar Hariyawan, S.T., M.T. signed the document. Masrul Kasmy, Assistant I of the Riau Provincial Secretariat, and Jonli, Director of the Riau Province Manpower and Transmigration Office, were also present.
"The launch of the Vocational Tower program also confirms that the vocational education and training programs being run at WK Rokan are in line with the government's goals. The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding today is a form of our commitment to contribute to efforts to improve the skills of local human resources in Riau," said Sukamto Tamrin.
The Vocational Tower program was launched simultaneously in five provinces online, namely Riau, North Sumatra, South Kalimantan, East Nusa Tenggara, and Southeast Sulawesi. The government appoints a local vocational college as the program facilitator in each province. Currently, Vocational Tower Program aims to increase skills in four main areas: machinery, hospitality construction, creative economy, and care service.
The launching of the Vocational Tower Program in Riau was attended by Dr. Beni Bandanadjaja S.T., M.T., as the Academic Director of Vocational Higher Education Kemendikbud. "Vocational education is fundamental in responding to various current and future challenges and opportunities. Through the Vocational Tower Program, we will create a generation that is competent and ready to become the leaders of their time," said Beni in his speech. The term Menara describes an area that is expected to become a model for a link and match programs between higher education and industry.
"Hopefully, this event will become a momentum, trigger, and spur the revival of vocational education that produces innovative ideas for strengthening vocational education in Riau. Strong vocational training will also strengthen Indonesia," said Masrul Kasmy. Following the commencement of the Vocational Tower Program, the participants moved to SKA Co-Ex for the Vocational Tower Expo 2021. Around 25 outlets from Riau's various vocational education institutes attended the exhibition. They exhibited their work, renewable products, and innovations from several regions in Riau.
Meanwhile, the Memorandum of Understanding between PHR WK Rokan and Polbeng and PCR aims to improve the quality of Riau's local human resources through higher education by advancing education, teaching, research, and community service. Vocational education and training programs are one of the main focuses of the Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) program of PHR WK Rokan.
Apart from Polbeng and PCR, WK Rokan has also established partnerships with other local universities in Riau, namely Riau University, Riau Islamic University, Riau Muhammadiyah University, Sultan Syarif Kasim State Islamic University, and Lancang Kuning University.**
