Sustainable ESG: Pertamina Utilizes Used Uniform Waste to Create Recycled Clothes

Jakarta, May 2, 2024 - Fully supporting sustainability, PT Pertamina (Persero) invites all Perwira (Pertamina Employees) to participate in the "Uniform Recycling Program" #2Renew1, with the tagline "Give Your Uniform A Second Life." This program collects used uniforms and then processes them into recycled clothes. Sustainable Fashion is one of Pertamina's flagship Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) programs aimed at extending the lifespan of old clothes into new ones that are more environmentally friendly.

Corporate Secretary of PT Pertamina (Persero), Brahmantya S. Poerwadi, hopes that this Sustainable Fashion program can increase public awareness, starting with Pertamina's internal circles, giving a second life to old uniform clothes to make them more appealing and usable.

"This program is exceptional, following Pertamina's sustainability plan that truly considers leveraging what we already have through the 4Rs: rethink, redo, reuse, and recycle. We hope this program does not just stop here and can continue, or even become a trend in society," said Brahmantya during the launching ceremony at Grha Pertamina, Jakarta, on Thursday (2/4).

Through this initiative, Brahmantya expressed that it could promote the sustainability goals as a lifestyle among Pertamina's Officers. Thus, all Officers can contribute to supporting the Net Zero Emission (NZE) target.

Vice President of Corporate Communication of PT Pertamina (Persero), Fadjar Djoko Santoso, added that the waste generated from this Uniform Recycling is estimated to result in a carbon emission efficiency of 9,601 Kg CO2, equivalent to planting 436 trees and saving more than 3.4 million liters of water.

"This activity also serves as a solution in managing the Pertamina brand, mitigating the misuse of old, unused uniforms. Additionally, it supports Pertamina's decarbonization program through reducing uniform textile waste (circular textiles), as well as the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically Goal 12 on Responsible Consumption and Production," he explained.

The "Uniform Recycling Program" runs from May 2, 2024, to June 30, 2024. The program aims to collect 500 kilograms of used uniforms from the Pertamina Group Officers.

Pertamina, as a leading company in the energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement. All these efforts align with Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) implementation across all Pertamina's business lines and operations.**
