Synergizing for Clean Energy, Pertamina & BPPT Inaugurate 2 Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

Jakarta, August 5, 2021 - PT Pertamina (Persero) and the Center for Energy Conversion Technology (B2TKE) - the RI Agency for Technology Assessment and Application (BPPT) are collaborating to build clean energy infrastructure based on electric batteries by constructing a Public Electric Vehicle Charging Station (SPKLU).

Two SPKLUs, each located at Jalan Lenteng Agung and MT Haryono Jakarta Petrol Stations, have been operating. It was inaugurated virtually on Thursday (05/08).

Present at the inauguration were the Minister of Transportation, Budi Karya Sumadi, Head of the Research and Innovation Agency. Laksana Tri Handoko, Head of the Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT), Hammam Riza, Director General of Electricity at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Rida Mulyana, President Director of Pertamina, Nicke Widyawati and President Director of PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, who is also the CEO of Pertamina's Subholding Commercial and Trading, Alfian Nasution.

Budi Karya Sumadi, Minister of Transportation, praised BPPT and Pertamina's collaboration for the installation and operation of SPKLU MT Haryono and Lenteng Agung in DKI Jakarta. He hopes that this will be a good start and example for business actors such as Pertamina to enter and support the acceleration of Battery-Based Electric Motorized Vehicles (KBLBB) in Indonesia, as stated in Perpres 55 of 2019.

"We also hope that there will be lessons learned that can become an input for the Ministry of Transportation to ensure the transition of facilities and infrastructure that is more environmentally friendly and reliable and can be carried out as well as possible," said Budi.

Rida Mulyana, the Director-General of Electricity, stated that the battery-based electric vehicle initiative is part of the energy transition, aims to promote cleaner, more efficient energy usage and reduce fuel imports. Therefore, it can save foreign exchange and fuel subsidies in the end.

"We appreciate Pertamina's efforts to carry out business transformation in response to global developments. This transition will not be easy, but we believe it can be accomplished thanks to Pertamina's experience and competitiveness. Pertamina will be able to make a significant contribution to the development of electric vehicle infrastructure," he said.

On the occasion of the virtual inauguration of the SPKLU, President Director of Pertamina, Nicke Widyawati, said that as a state-owned enterprise dominated by fossil energy, Pertamina's transformation must be carried out significantly and quickly. Energy transition commitments must also be taken seriously and involve a very massive program. These targets are input into the Environment, Social & Governance (ESG), either directly or indirectly in the company's operations.

Pertamina has also measured carbon emissions over the previous ten years and has achieved a 29 percent reduction in carbon emissions from 2010 to 2020. It will continue to be improved, including the transportation sector, which contributes 23 percent of carbon emissions.

"This transportation sector must implement specifications. For that, Pertamina cooperates with various parties to develop SPKLU, one of which is with BPPT. Three locations are being developed, and they are already operating," said Nicke.

In addition, Nicke said to support the Government in developing the electric car industry, Pertamina is also engaged in its mid-stream industry, namely electric battery ecosystem development with other SOEs in the IBC (Indonesian Battery Corporation). Pertamina also cooperates with other parties for sub-batteries, which are applied in several tourist areas by leasing electric motor vehicles.

"Shortly, we will also launch a green energy station, where today around 100 Pertamina gas stations have been installed with solar PV so that the electricity is already green energy and will be equipped with SPKLU," she added.

According to Nicke, Pertamina plans to convert 250-300 gas stations into green energy stations this year. There will be rewards for customers who buy fuel at green energy stations. It shows Pertamina's commitment to supporting energy mix from renewable energy in the energy transition.

"We thank BPPT for continuing to foster good cooperation with Pertamina. Especially in increasing renewable energy and new energy in Indonesia. "We also want to convey our gratitude and appreciation to the government for continuing to support Pertamina," Nicke added.

Currently, Pertamina has initiated SPKLU Pilots in 6 locations. It includes SPKLU at Fatmawati gas station, South Jakarta, inaugurated on December 10, 2020, SPKLU at Kuningan gas station, and SPKLU at Soekarno Hatta Airport, which is currently under construction. The other three SPKLUs are in synergy with BPPT, namely SPBU Lenteng Agung and MT Haryono and SPKLU located at Puspitek BPPT Serpong.**
