Taught to be Automotive Workshop Entrepreneurs, these Vocational High School Alumni Reach a Turnover of More than IDR 500 Million

Jakarta, March 14, 2021 - PT Pertamina (Persero) through its subsidiary, PT Pertamina Lubricants, continues to coach students and alumni of Vocational High School (SMK) to become entrepreneurs of automotive workshops.

Through the Enduro Student Program (ESP), in 2020, Pertamina has coached 113 young vocational high school alumni to successfully open automotive workshops in 64 locations. The results are quite remarkable, these alumni managed to get a turnover of more than IDR 500 million. This turnover was obtained from repair services and product sales, which reached 14,259 units.

ESP is one of Pertamina's CSR programs with Creating Shared Value (CSV) approach which focuses on education and training in the automotive and two-wheeler workshop as well as entrepreneurship for students or alumni of SMK. This program is carried out in collaboration with the local governments and in accordance with the achievement of SDGs or Sustainable Development Goals point 4 which is to increase the number of youth who have skills and majored in something to have decent work and entrepreneurship, as well as point 8 that is to support inclusive and sustainable economic growth and productive employment opportunities.

In this ESP program, participants are given trainings that build character and creativity, work practices, and mentorship on automotive workshops by PT Pertamina Lubricants’ fostered partner workshops, as well as entrepreneurship training and business assistance. The purpose of ESP is to produce productive young entrepreneurial workers in the automotive sector, especially two-wheeler workshops.

"We hope that young entrepreneurs can feel the dynamics of the automotive workshop business and keep exploring knowledge to develop their business to be evolved and independent," said Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications & Investor Relations of Pertamina, Agus Suprijanto.

Apart from ESP, there are other programs of CSV, namely Pertamina Sahabat Nelayan where fishermen are trained to become entrepreneurs through fishing workshops. More than 100 fishermen have been affiliated with door to door engine service on ships thanks to this program. The income of fishermen has also increased to IDR 2.6 million per month from the fishing workshop business. This program has also succeeded in increasing tourist visits to 12 thousand per month.

Enduro Sahabat Lapas is also another CSV program which is a training activity in prisons in the form of automotive training and the establishment of an Enduro Express Workshop. This program is carried out in synergy with Pertamina DPPU Sepinggan Group as an innovation of coaching activities in Class A Balikpapan Prison. The activities are in the form of automotive training and the establishment of the Enduro Express Workshop to improve mechanical skills for Community Assisted Residents (WBP) as provisions when the period of detention is over.

"By using the CSV approach, Pertamina can perform Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) which includes giving impacts, contributing to sustainable development, community empowerment, and by using new and renewable energy as an action to minimize climate change as a part of the implementation of ESG (Environment, Social and Governance) which supports efforts to develop a sustainable energy business," concluded Agus.
