Jakarta, May 25, 2022 – Zero carbon emission is the Indonesian government's target in 2060 as a form of climate change mitigation following the COP 26 Glasgow Summit in 2021. This target was then translated and declared by the Indonesian government into Indonesia's 2030 Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) target, which targets an unconditional reduction target of 29% by 2030. It emphasizes Indonesia's role as a key country for the world to achieve zero carbon emissions and was appointed as the main action theme in Indonesia's presidency at the G20.
Responding to this challenge, SVP Strategy & Investment of PT Pertamina (Persero), Daniel Purba, explained that Pertamina commits to reducing carbon emissions and increasing the energy mix. Therefore, the PFscience program is important for Pertamina.
“Pertamina has a target of reducing carbon emissions by 30% and increasing the new renewable energy mix by 15% in 2030 by investing and innovating programs and projects. One of them is the PFsains program. It is an important part of the Pertamina Group in building a green economy and green energy to achieve these targets," said SVP Strategy & Investment of PT Pertamina (Persero), Daniel Purba, at the PFsains 2022 Launching event on Wednesday (25/05).
President Director of Pertamina Foundation, Agus Mashud S. Asngari, said that PFsains answers climate change issues challenges. Not only PFsains but also the already running Blue Carbon Initiative.
“The issue of climate change is an urgency that must be addressed immediately through innovation and real solutions. It is a challenge that is being answered through the Blue Carbon Initiative and PFscience together. The Blue Carbon Initiative is in progress, where mapping, potential and risk analysis with experts and MoUs with partners from the Pertamina Group and external have been implemented. Likewise, today, PFsains is officially opened for academics, practitioners, and researchers," said President Director of Pertamina Foundation, Agus Mashud S. Asngari, Wednesday (25/05).
The PFsains program is a competition for creativity in the new and renewable energy (NRE) development through research activities and or innovative practices of NRE technology and the supporting ecosystem for achieving NZE. PFsains will be opened from May 25, 2022, to June 25, 2022, with the “Innovative Green Technopreneur Competition” theme. There are two categories to compete, namely Ideanation and Implementation.
This year's PFsains is different from previous years because it is supported by New Venture PT Pertamina (Persero). In addition to obtaining funding for prototype implementation assistance with a total of billions of rupiahs, briefing, and mentoring, the best energy innovations will be synergized with Pertamina's subholding business. The best innovations will be developed into businesspreneurs who will be incubated and accelerated by pitching specifically in a 1-2 year program under special mentoring and funding until the business is successful. Not only that, the selected project will be followed up to become a pilot for the Independent Energy Village and the G20 showcase.
Two years running, PFsains was successfully followed by 600 participants for NRE project proposals, with seven winners were selected. One of them has successfully appeared at international exhibitions, namely the electric motorcycle by Arfie Ikhsan, which will appear at the MotoGP Mandalika2022 exhibition. Meanwhile, other PFsains projects have become a reliable energy source in the 3T region, one of which is the Affordable and Adaptive PWM Solar Energy Management project. (APSEM) by Tiyo Avianto. Tiyo's work illuminates 100 houses of Loburui Village, Sabu Island, East Nusa Tenggara.
“PFsains has shown its success with various new renewable energy projects that are very proud. I hope that in 2022, there will be more prototypes that we can implement immediately to ensure energy availability in the 3T area and to accelerate the zero carbon emission target for the community's welfare,"said Agus.**
