January 27, 2021 - PT Pertamina (Persero) is ready to support the Ministry of SOE in cooperation with the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP) to increase accountability and prevent corrupt practices within State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs).
The cooperation is realized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed by the Minister of SOE, Erick Thohir, and the Head of the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP), Muhammad Yusuf Ateh, at the BPKP Head Office, Jakarta, Tuesday (26/01).
Pertamina's commitment and seriousness to maintaining compliance and implementing good corporate governance (GCG) have been done previously by increasing legal institutions' involvement in business processes and company projects.
Previously in 2020, Pertamina had carried out strategic cooperation with law enforcement agencies, including the Indonesian Police, the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK), the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP), the Indonesian Attorney General's Office, and the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications & Investor Relations of Pertamina, Agus Suprijanto, said that through cooperation with BPKP, Pertamina is increasingly strengthening Good Corporate Governance (GCG) implementation in every level of organization and operational activities within the company and the Pertamina Group.
"As a state-owned enterprise, Pertamina always prioritizes the principles of transparency, accountability, responsibility, and fairness in company management. It is to maintain and increase the continuity of a healthy and competitive business in the long term as well as increase trust and service, as is done by world-class energy companies," said Agus.
On the occasion of signing the MoU, Minister of SOE, Erick Thohir, said that the cooperation and collaboration with the BPKP were a form of the Ministry of SOE's commitment, especially regarding the development and strengthening of good governance within the SOEs and the Ministry of SOE.
"We appreciate the programs contained in this memorandum of understanding and encourage all SOEs to take advantage of the cooperation with BPKP in terms of strengthening governance and the effectiveness of managing the risk of fraud in SOE so that the purpose of this cooperation can run well," said Erick.
To strengthen SOE governance, the Ministry of SOE has also collaborated with international organizations that are also members of the World Bank Group, namely the International Finance Corporation (IFC), to improve good corporate governance (GCG) in SOEs in 2020.
On the same occasion, the Head of BPKP, Muhammad Yusuf Ateh, stated that BPKP is committed to guarding accountability within the Ministry of SOE, SOEs, and its subsidiaries.
"It is hoped that there will be a periodic SOEs accountability assessment, mainly to ensure improved governance, as well as to prevent fraud or fraud within BUMN," said Ateh.**
