Using Their Own Feed, Pertamina’s Fostered Duck Egg Production Increased

Jakarta, April 3, 2021 – Pertamina’s efforts to empower micro and small enterprises (MSE) through the Partnership Program have covered all small business sectors. Pertamina has fostered more than 4.400 MSEs in the farming sectors, and it continues to increase every year.

One of Pertamina’s fostered partners in the farming sector is Juartini. Petelur Bebek Mandiri has been in the farming industry for a long time. At the start of her business, she did not spend any money on ducks. “In 2000, The Agriculture and Farming Service Office of Medan gave me 100 ducks,” she said.

She did not waste that opportunity. Juartini worked diligently to raise and breed the ducks. At the moment, the number of ducks has increased tenfold to 1000 ducks. “I have learned from successful breeders to raise ducks. Alhamdulillah, I have applied many of those tips,” she added.

The developing business affected the number of workers needed. Before becoming Pertamina’s fostered partner, the farm located in Bunga Kardiol Street no. 49 Baru Ladang Bambu, Medan Tuntungan Disctrict, Medan City, North Sumatera had no employees. Now five people who are her neighbors help her business.

This production of duck eggs which reaches 600 to 700 eggs per day, has also been well absorbed. The marketing, which was initially only in the scope of districts, has now expanded to inter-city. It includes Medan and Deli Serdang Regency. Since becoming Pertamina’s fostered partner, she has marketed her products through a marketplace such as Tokopedia under Telur_Bebek_Bu_Lurah.

Apart from eggs production, her business also expands to duck feed production. In the past, according to Juartini, she often bought feed from factories at a relatively high price. But nowadays, she can produce her own feed with similar quality as the one from the factories. Therefore, the quality of the eggs is maintained.

Juartini said that if her duck farm only uses commercial feed, it can account for 70% of the total production cost. For that reason, she produces her own feed to reduce the production cost. She often uses water snails, shrimp heads, or other types of sea fish for protein sources. For the carbohydrate sources, she usually uses corn or bran. Those two compositions were mixed with a ratio adjusted with the age of the duck.

Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications & Investor Relations of Pertamina, Agus Suprijanto, appreciates Juniarti’s efforts. According to him, she has implemented a business with the Sociopreneur concept. It is in line with the implementation of the 8th goal of SDGs, which is providing decent work and supporting economic growth.

Through this Partnership Program, said Agus, Pertamina wants to present the energy that drives the economy constantly--energy that becomes the fuel and the energy that generates sustainable growth.  “Pertamina will support Indonesian MSEs to be more independent with intensive assistance that we provide so that  MSEs can upgrade,” he concluded.

Besides SDGs, Pertamina also tries to implement ESG in the social sector. ESG or Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) management is the company’s step to run its business that focuses on long-term business sustainability. Pertamina believes that it will always be able to deliver economic benefits to people following the environmental and social responsibilities.**
