Balikpapan, 7 April 2018 - Pertamina starts reducing four operational ships for the Balikpapan gulf cleansing.
Earlier this morning, Saturday (7/4), Pertamina reduced ship's amount from 21 units to 17 units. "The deployed team is down to 170 personels which is devided to 3 shifts, whereas there were totally 234 personels." Says Yudy Nugraha, Region Manager Communication & CSR Kalimantan.
Today's activity is focused on zone 1 in LLP Base ( Lindungan Lingkungan Perairan / Water Environment Protection) and Kampung Baru, while sweeping patrol is conducted in another zone.
Oil spill cleansing in Balikpapan Gulf devided to 4 zones. Zone two covering Rede area and Kolam Labuh. Zone three covering Monpera beach and Zone four covering offshore area and it's vicinity.
The cleansing team consist of Water Environment Protection officers, technical support, dan ship's crew. Ship Armada consist of 9 units tug boat, 3 units boat patrol, 3 units oil barge and 2 aluminium boats.
Oil spill cleansing that is located under residential area still take place with the assistance of the locals. This process is still done considering the water tide .
This morning, tens of Margasari locals are cleaning the garbage that stuck among the mangroves along Kampung Atas Air. Some of them are collecting garbage into plastic container, while others are sweeping garbage on the sidelines of mangrove roots.
The collected garbage is carried to garbage bank shelter which is Margasari locals' environmental awareness activity unit.
"The garbage that we managed to collect as of today, is a go to be sheltered at garbage bank, because since last afternoon the water condition has already cleaned up, no more oil attached." Ride explains.
