Jakarta, March 21, 2022 – Taking the big momentum of the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia at the Pertamina Mandalika Circuit, Pertamina through PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional (PT KPI), fulfilled its ambition to go international by successfully producing fuel and lubricants materials that meet international racing quality. Both products have passed the initial testing stage for the characteristic test with several predetermined parameters.
Corporate Secretary of PT KPI, Ifki Sukarya, said the test carried out by Lemigas (independent international standard fuel and lubricant testing laboratory) on 650 CC and 250 CC vehicles showed, that the main parameters of racing fuel produced by PT KPI were in line with the FIM (Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme) standards for Category 1 (MotoGP, Moto2, and Moto3).
The test results showed that Pertamina's Racing fuel has a high Octane Number (RON 100 and MON 90). It ensures that the fuel can operate in high compression racing engines. Another parameter is the low Existent Gum, so it has good oxidation resistance at high-temperature racing engine operation. Pertamina's Racing fuel is also proven to have a low Sulfur content of less than 1.0 mg/kg that ensures environmentally friendly emission levels and meets the best international standards.
Furthermore, Ifki revealed that the quality of racing lubricants with base oil produced by PT KPI tested had similar characteristics compared to racing lubricants with fully synthetic base oils, which are currently 100% imported. Ifki said, "The production of base oil equivalent to full synthetic quality by PT KPI provides an option for more affordable and competitive base oil prices for manufacturers of special racing lubricants as well as the potential to save foreign exchange."
Ifki explained, “In addition to the Characteristics Test, the racing fuel and lubricants have also passed the Performance Test. In performance testing, the Chassis Dynamometer method is used. It showed fuel and special lubricants usage for racing that uses base oil produced by PT KPI, which shows a fairly high maximum power and torque." Moreover, the test also shows that the AFR (Air Fuel Ratio) is required to be in the optimum AFR range (12.5 - 13.0) so that fuel efficiency is optimal, explained Ifki.
Ifki also said, "The results of the LEMIGAS test show that Racing Lubricants that use base oil produced by PT KPI meet the standards set out in the SNI JASO 7069.2 specification for API SN/JASO MA2 performance with SAE 10W-50."
PT KPI targets that fuel and Special Lubricants for racing that use PT KPI's base oil will be ready for use in the Mandalika 2023 Moto GP Race. "For this reason, soon, an official certification will be done by a laboratory appointed by the FIM as well as an endurance test at the official circuit to ensure optimal performance in racing simulations," stated Ifki.**
