Jakarta, October 31, 2024 – PT Pertamina (Persero) continues to expand clean, rural-based energy utilization through its Desa Energi Berdikari (DEB/Independent Energy Village) Program. As of October 2024, Pertamina has established 102 DEBs across Indonesia.
The Vice President of Corporate Communication of Pertamina, Fadjar Djoko Santoso, stated that as of October 2024, Pertamina had added DEBs in 17 villages across various regions, including Tasikmalaya (West Java), Banten, Kamojang, Subang, Indramayu (West Java), Bali, Jambi, Ulubelu (Lampung), Boyolali (Central Java), and Lumut Balai (South Sumatra).
“Pertamina’s DEB initiative uses clean energy sources such as solar power, micro-hydro, and biogas, which have great potential to provide sustainable benefits,” said Fadjar.
He added that in implementing the DEB program, Pertamina not only installs clean energy infrastructure but also educates the community on how to manage clean energy for optimal economic development. Through this education, Pertamina hopes the community can manage its energy resources independently.
"This is Pertamina’s empowerment model for building village-based energy self-sufficiency, with the community as its backbone," Fadjar added.
Fadjar stated that Pertamina will continue to expand the village-based clean energy utilization. In 2024, Pertamina aims to add DEBs in 79 locations, with some already undergoing surveys and others in the installation phase.
Besides supporting energy self-sufficiency, the DEB Program also plays a key role in reducing emissions, following the government’s target to reach NZE by 2060. Every year, Pertamina’s DEB Program successfully reduces carbon emissions by 729,127 tons of CO2 equivalent.
“The wider the clean energy utilization, the greater the reduction in carbon emissions. Thus helping to accelerate the government’s NZE target,” Fadjar emphasized.
The DEB Program also positively impacts the local economy. One example is the off-grid solar power plant in Ulubelu, Lampung, which has been built and is operational to power coffee roasting machines. This not only improves production efficiency but also reduces operational costs in Robusta coffee production. This success illustrates DEB’s great potential to support local economic activities while promoting renewable energy utilization.
Pertamina, as a leading company in the energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement: Goal 7 – Affordable and Clean Energy, Goal 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth, and Goal 13 – Climate Action. All these efforts align with Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) implementation across all Pertamina's business lines and operations.
