Jakarta, March 8, 2024 - On the Women's International Day, PT Pertamina (Persero) reaffirms its commitment to strengthening inclusive policies and gender equality in the workplace. The number of female workers continues to increase, with more than 18% of management-level employees being women.
President Director of Pertamina, Nicke Widyawati, stated that Pertamina provides equal opportunities for women and men at all levels. It is reflected in policies formulated by Pertamina and the daily work environment for all employees.
"All parties, men and women, at all levels in Pertamina understand that gender equality benefit the company. We believe that inclusivity, including gender equality, must be upheld and maintained because it makes the company more perfect," Nicke explained.
Benchmarking against global energy companies, Pertamina has developed affirmative policies to promote gender equality. It is realized through Pertamina’s Tough and Inspirational Women with Integrity (PERTIWI) establishment. The formation of the PERTIWI community is a collective movement for gender equality, where members include not only women but also men.
"This is not rolling out the red carpet for women, but providing equal opportunities for women and men," she added.
In the programs’ implementation, PERTIWI focuses on four areas: Development, Wellbeing, Sustainability, and Partnership and Communication.
Several development programs conducted by PERTIWI include the Women Leadership Accelerator (Women LEAP), held from March 2022 to April 2023, resulting in 40 female leaders within the Pertamina Group. Another program, Coaching & Mentoring, aims to enhance the competence and confidence of female workers to become leaders. To date, the PERTIWI program has trained more than 402 female workers.
Furthermore, Pertamina also has a Respectful Workplace Handbook as a guide for all employees to have the same understanding and information needed to support a workplace free from discrimination, violence, and harassment while upholding diversity, equality, and inclusion.
PERTIWI Pertamina also provides Psychological Counseling Assistance for Employees (PsyCare) to provide psychological support to workers, optimize talent, and prevention efforts to maintain mental health.
"In 2021, Mrs. Nicke Widyawati, as the President Director of Pertamina, received an award from UN Women Indonesia for her leadership commitment to implementing gender equality," added the Vice President of Corporate Communication of Pertamina, Fadjar Djoko Santoso.
Pertamina, as a leading company in the energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement. All these efforts align with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) implementation across all Pertamina's business lines and operations.**
