Bali, May 22, 2024 – PT Pertamina (Persero) is committed to managing water usage to protect clean water sources and support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 6, Clean Water and Sanitation. This initiative follows one of Pertamina’s sustainability focus: reducing the environmental footprint.
It was conveyed by the Vice President (VP) of Sustainability Strategy of Pertamina, Suripno, during the 10th Water Forum Side Event - Executive Roundtable Dialogue, part of the World Water Forum 2024, in Nusa Dua, Bali, on Wednesday (May 22).
During a panel discussion titled, "Flowing Forward Faster: Best Practices in Corporate Water Stewardship," Suripno highlighted Pertamina’s concrete actions in supporting successful water management programs.
"We are undertaking two efforts. First, internal efforts including behavioral and technological aspects. Second, external efforts through collaboration with communities and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs. We also recognize the water use across Pertamina's business value chain. Thus, we implement water management systems and programs that provide a Net Positive Water Impact (NPWI)," he explained.
Suripno added that Pertamina manages water usage rigorously. The Sustainable Water Management program starts with identifying the water consumption value chain, setting targets, and implementing the program. Additionally, Pertamina Water Tools are used to quickly assess the application of water management systems across all business units.
VP of Corporate Communication, Fadjar Djoko Santoso, added that Pertamina’s sustainability efforts, including water management, are published in the Sustainability Report, accessible at www.pertamina.com. This publication represents Pertamina’s transparency to stakeholders regarding the efforts and results of the sustainability programs.
"As a state-owned enterprise, Pertamina not only plays a role in maintaining energy sovereignty but also strives to become a sustainable and environmentally friendly company, providing significant benefits for society and environmental sustainability," Fadjar explained.
Pertamina, as a leading company in the energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement. All these efforts align with Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) implementation across all Pertamina's business lines and operations.
