Collaboration as The Key to Implement Sustainable Energy Transition
JAKARTA - The technology, economy, access, and infrastructure readiness are the main challenges in welcoming the energy transition era in addressing climate change.
To obtain technology necessity and global funding, Task Force Energy, Sustainability, and Climate (TF ESC) B20, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and IRENA, held the 2nd Partners in Energy Transitions in hybrid from Pullman Hotel on Tuesday, July 19, 2022.
This forum is the second meeting after being successfully held on April 1, 2022, attended by 160 representatives from business entities, government, non-government organizations, and institutions. It is hoped that IRENA members and TF ESC B20 members can open international collaborations to unlock the potential of new renewable energy in Indonesia.
The Chair of Energy, Sustainability, & Climate Task Force Business 20, Nicke Widyawati, President Director of Pertamina, said that energy transition is the key to solving global problems and climate change. “To reduce technology costs in energy development, cooperation and collaboration are needed. And the time is now for all stakeholders to act together to achieve the grand mission of the energy transition,” she said.
The activity was divided into four sessions. The first session explained the challenges and opportunities to increase clean energy financing and manage/reduce investment risks in developing countries. The speakers shared their experiences related to energy transition and investment mobilization toward deploying and facilitating renewable energy around the Asian Region.
The second session was investment forums which aimed to strengthen decision-making capabilities more easily through IRENA projects facilitation platforms, such as the Climate Investment Platform (CIP) and the Energy Transitions Accelerator Financing (ETAF) platform. The third session discussed an overview of clean energy opportunities in Indonesia and the importance of bioenergy and renewable energy projects.
Finally, in the fourth session, one of the speakers from Pertamina was Ary Kurniawan, VP of Planning & Commercial Development. He explained about the economy of scale, where a business will profit if it only produces products/services in large quantities. According to him, to achieve a green economy, a business must produce finished products in large quantities to not gain loss.
“That is why the government needs to provide clear mandates or directions and incentives to us so that the green economy can run optimally,” he explained.
Agung Wicaksono, as Deputy Chair of the TF ESC B20, emphasized. “The energy transition is something that has to happen. This is where the role of business actors is to make it happen, both in terms of financing and technology necessity. And this meeting is the beginning of that commitment.”•IN
