Pertamina Supports the Implementation of Just and Orderly Energy Transition Policies for Business Entities
JAKARTA - It is undeniable that the COVID-19 pandemic has made the global energy transition faster than targeted. The achievement of net-zero emission has become a necessity.
This was conveyed by the President Director of Pertamina, Nicke Widyawati, in the Energy Sustainability & Climate Task Force Stakeholder Consultation activity at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, Jakarta, Tuesday, December 28, 2021.
To address this, according to Nicke, Indonesia already has a grand energy strategy that targets a 29 percent reduction in carbon emissions by 2030 and net-zero carbon emissions by 2060.
"We, as energy business actors in Indonesia, must take the same steps to support the government's targets," she said.
The Task Force Energy, Sustainability, & Climate The Business (B20) - Indonesia 2022, is chaired by Nicke. To that end, it is an outreach group from the G20 representing the international business community, held an Energy Sustainability & Climate Task Force Stakeholder Consultation.
Nicke hopes that the B20 Forum can translate all government targets and recommend policies so that the energy transition can be just and orderly. The private sector must also play a role to drive strong, sustainable, and developed economic growth.
"In carrying out our duties, we need input from related stakeholders so that we can align the problems focus in Energy, Sustainability, & Climate in the Plenary Discussion of The Business 20 (B20)," she said.
There were three main topics discussed in the event: Accelerate The Transition to Sustainable Energy Use, Ensure a Just and Orderly Transition, and Addressing Energy Poverty. This forum was attended by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, the Ministry of SOEs, the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime & Investment Affairs, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, the Ministry of Finance, the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, the Indonesian Ministry of Labor, the Ministry of Transportation, Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), Ministry of National Development Planning, and the National Energy Council (DEN).
This activity is expected to be a discussion medium and provide input on related policies to align the next steps so that all regulations are in line with the needs of business entities.
General Secretary of DEN, Djoko Siswanto, expressed his appreciation for this activity. "I think it's perfect. Two main things must be considered so that a country can have energy security: building infrastructure as part of the accessibility aspect and developing new and renewable energy. Thus, net-zero emissions can be achieved quickly. For that, all parties support is very much needed, not only the government but also the community participation," said Djoko.
The same thing was conveyed by the Expert Staff of Strategic Planning of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Yudo Dwinanda Priaadi. He emphasized that national and global issues are currently being addressed, starting from energy security, smart and green energy technology, and financing aspects.
“Three global and national issues are the current concern. The first is Energy Security. The second is the Smart and Green Energy Technology Scale-Up Issue on integrating renewables in the system to make us more adaptive. Third is the financing aspect; that some of the projects we have also require large funding,” said Yudo.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN), Advisor B20 Indonesia, Arsyad Rasjid, hopes that this activity can provide policy recommendations so that the impact can be felt for businesses and become a breakthrough amid today's world conditions.
“In line with the theme of B20 Advancing Innovative, Inclusive and Collaborative Growth. Some of the B20 Issues highlighted are in line with KADIN's main priorities and global trends to realize efficient global value change, encourage inclusive economic development in providing benefits for all business actors, especially MSMEs, and socialize and actualize the Circular Business Model and Eco-Friendly concepts. A business which is also in line with the targets of the 2030 SDGs," he concluded.
